First install SP3, this may fix the problem...quote from my all clean post:
Update your Windows XP to Service Pack 3! It is CRITICAL that you keep your Windows updated. Otherwise you're open to dozens of security holes which WILL cause you to get reinfected. Visit Windows Update NOW and download Service Pack 3 + ALL critical updates! (Click Start All Programs Windows Update to launch Windows Update)
Please remember to visit Windows Update REGULARLY. Remember: an unpatched system = a hacker heaven!
Andy, I have run all of the suggestions you have made. SP3 has been installed, OTC ran without incident, i have installed comodo and done the online virus checks. Not sure if combofix has been deleted per my report to you about the error code. Have you found out anything about my defrag not working?
Now, enable the Show Hidden Folders option, like this:
-Click Start. -Open My Computer. -Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. -Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders. -Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. -Click Yes to confirm. -Click OK.
Then...
1.Click Start > Run
2.Type or copy/paste the following:
regsvr32 C:\Windows\system32\msxml3.dll
3.Click OK and WAIT until Windows confirms that the dll has been registered successfully.
4.Now open Windows Explorer(Right Click START and choose "Explore") and browse to the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\jerryc126\Application Data\Microsoft\MMC
5.Look through the the folder for this file: dfrg
6.Rename the file to dfrg_old.msc( Right Click and Choose Rename)
7.Now try to launch your console again, let me know how you got on.
