Hi and welcome, sorry for the delay the forum is really busy.
My name is Cypher, and I will be helping you with your malware problems.

Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

please note the following important guidelines.
  • The instructions being given are for YOUR computer and system only!.
Using these instructions on a different computer, can damage that computer and possibly make it inoperable!
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Only post your problem at One help site. Applying fixes from multiple help sites can cause problems.
  • Only reply to this thread do not start another, Please continue responding until I give you the "All Clean"
Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  • Please DO NOT install any other software (or hardware) during the cleaning process. This adds more items to be researched.
  • Print each set of instructions... if possible...your Internet connection might not be available during some fix processes.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • The logs from the tools we use can take some time to research so please be patient.

  • If you haven't done so already, please read this topic ALL USERS OF THIS FORUM MUST READ THIS FIRST where the conditions for receiving help here are explained.

I see you have CCleaner installed, please run it now.
CAUTION: Please do NOT use the "Registry" button in the left pane.
This is a built-in registry cleaner. Removing certain entries can render your computer inoperable!

Hi Diane.
Thank you for your help.

Your most welcome :)
Please follow the instructions for running RSIT, then continue with the following.

Please download GMER Rootkit Scanner from Here.
  • Double click the .exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO

    Image
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in your next reply
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

If you have problems running GMER try this.

RootRepeal - Rootkit Detector

  • Download RootRepeal from the following location and save it to your desktop.
  • Unzip it to your Desktop
  • Double click RootRepeal.exe to start the program
  • Click on the Report tab at the bottom of the program window
  • Click the Scan button
  • In the Select Scan dialog, check:
    • Drivers
    • Files
    • Processes
    • SSDT
    • Stealth Objects
    • Hidden Services
    • Shadow SSDT
  • Click the OK button
  • Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:), and Click OK to start the scan

The scan can take some time. DO NOT run any other programs while the scan is running
  • When the scan is complete, the Save Report button will become available
  • Click this and save the report to your Desktop as RootRepeal.txt
  • Go to File, then Exit to close the program

Logs/Information to Post in your Next Reply

  • Gmer.txt log or RootRepeal.txt log.
  • Please give me an update on your computers performance.

Hi Diane.
Were you able to run Gmer or RootRepeal ?
Please post the log from whichever scan you were able to run.

I am sorry for the delay. Tuesday I could not get my computer to do anything. Yesterday I got gmer to run. It was running for hours. It was still running when we went to bed. This morning it is not on my computer. I will have to find out if my husband did anything. And I will most likely have to run again. I will get one of them posted today.

Hi Diane.
Forget about Gmer and run the RootRepeal scan instead.
Gmer can be problematic on some systems.

hello again. I have tried the rootrepeal scan several times. I can't get it to work. I got a message saying there was not enough virtual memory a couple of times. I didn't have any thing else running. I thought I would try gmer again. It took off great but then stalled. Now what?

Thank you

Hi Diane.

Download and Run Blacklight

  • Please download F-Secure Blacklight (fsbl.exe) from here
  • Note: Save into C:\ with a name of fsbl.exe
  • Go to Start > Run
  • Copy and paste the contents of the below codebox into the run box
    Code: Select all
    C:\fsbl.exe /expert
  • Click OK
  • This will launch BlackLight
  • Select I accept the agreement
  • Click Next
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Click on Next>
  • Click Exit
  • A logfile will have been created in the C:\ drive
  • It will be named fsbl-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log where xxxxxxxxxxxxxx is the date and time of the scan
  • Use notepad to open that log
  • Post the contents of that log as a reply to this topic

Hi Diane.
Good work you doing great :thumbleft:
Please continue with the instructions below.

Back Up registry with ERUNT

  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it on to your desktop. HERE
  • Double Click on the erunt-setup.exe
  • Follow the prompts to install ERUNT
  • Choose language
  • A set up window will pop up. It will ask: Create ERUNT entry in to the Start up folder, answer NO

    Image
  • Backup your registry to the default location

Note: To restore your registry (if needed), go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Next.

Disable AVG9

  • Open AVG User Interface.
  • Double-click on the Resident Shield.
  • Un-tick the option Resident Shield active.
  • Save the changes.
  • Note: Don't forget to re-enable it after the fix.

Next.

Download and Run ComboFix

  • Please download ComboFix from from one of the following links.

    Link 1.

    Link 2.
  • Note: You must rename it before saving it... Rename it: Cypher.exe. See images below.

**IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop**

    Image

    Image
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console
Image
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
Image

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the contents of C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply
A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may cause to your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Logs/Information to Post in your Next Reply

  • ComboFix.txt log.
  • Please give me an update on your computers performance.

I just wanted to double check something. I am attempting to download erunt. In your instructions it says to click on that link and then scroll down to erunt. when I click on the link it goes straight to downloading erunt. I click run and then click ok to go ahead even though publisher is not verified or whatever. I then choose the language. It goes to the install wizard. It does not ask me if I want it to create a shortcut. It says that it will create one and what folder do i want it in. It says I must enter a folder. I went past this point a little and it was asking more questions I did not know the answers to. since you said to say no to the shortcut I canceled and thought I would check in.

thank you
