I was afraid of that ha. I can't find an xp disk. The users guide for our computer (a Compaq) says that it has a "recovery partition" on the computer. "No more hunting for lost cd's". This was my husband's computer so I am not sure what it actually came for.
Ok it might be a different setup on your pc. Let me know if you can boot to safe mode.
Boot into Safe Mode
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Hi Diane. Can you tell me the make and model of your PC and i will see what i can find out. The method for doing this differs depending on the maker of the PC so i can only go by the instructions i can find. It may be that you will have to order recovery discs from HP in order to reformat.
