Unread postby kelhw » February 12th, 2010, 7:43 pm

Hi, posted for a second time, as no response

My computer has recently slowed down in performance markedly, and when surfing the web I am plagued by about:blank pop-up messages (I always click no). Strangely this only happens when I am using my own computer profile, my partner's one is unaffected by the pop-ups (but possibly a bit slower than it used to be). We have Norton Anti-virus installed, but it never seems to pick this little beastie up. I would really appreciate your help.

Here is my HJT log:

Please give me an update on issues after doing the following!

Open Hijack This and select Do a System Scan Only place a check next to the below lines if still present

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {472734EA-242A-422B-ADF8-83D1E48CC825} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
    O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [] _
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\RunOnce: [] (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\RunOnce: [] (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-21-4126567128-574901669-2251030236-500\..\RunOnce: [] (User 'Administrator')
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\RunOnce: [] (User 'SYSTEM')
    O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\RunOnce: [] (User 'Default user')

Once selected close all windows except HJT an click on Fix Checked

Download and run Combofix
This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.
  • If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Image
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Image
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

If you need help, see this link:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please reply with:-
  • Combofix log
  • New HJT log

Due to lack of activity, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
