First I need an update on how computer is running. (apart from husband unable to connect, we will sort him out after we clean this account, ok). It is too confusing to do both and we are just about done with your account.

In Your account.

Open Hijack This and select Do a System Scan Only place a check next to the below lines if still present

    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.west.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.westathome.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.westathome.net
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.workathomeagent.net

Once selected close all windows except HJT an click on Fix Checked.

COMBOFIX-Script
A word of warning: Please do not run ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    Code: Select all
    File::
    c:\documents and settings\Wifey\Application Data\Microsoft\Installer\{F1B58743-123D-4748-9FDD-F1FA0E463662}\_6FEFF9B68218417F98F549.exe

    DDS::
    Trusted Zone: west.com
    Trusted Zone: westathome.com
    Trusted Zone: westathome.net
    Trusted Zone: workathomeagent.net
    .

  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    Image
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Please reply with:-
  • Combofix log
  • New HJT log

That looks good, I would like you to delete Combofix from your desktop then sign into your husbands account.

For your Husbands log do the following and internet connection should work fine afterwards. Once internet is working run any tools or fixes from his account from this point as it appears he is the source of the infection. (make sure you tell him that regularly :? )

Open Hijack This and select Do a System Scan Only place a check next to the below lines if still present

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5555
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - *CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - *EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - *{EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - *{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [utlggpyv] C:\Documents and Settings\Jeffro\Local Settings\Application Data\nsydma\mdyusysguard.exe
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.download.com

Once selected close all windows except HJT an click on Fix Checked

NEXT I would like you to restore your Proxy settings as they have been modified by malware and that's the reason why you can't connect.
To do this:
In Internet Explorer: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings >uncheck "use a proxy server" and check to "Automatically detect settings".
In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection.

REBOOT COMPUTER

Download and run Combofix
This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.
  • If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Image
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Image
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

If you need help, see this link:

Please reply with:-
  • Combofix log
  • New HJT log

Hi,

Just wanted to say (although you might already know this), the internet is back up and running on my husbands account and the whole system seems to be running much quicker and smoother (even though we might not be quiet out of the woods yet).

Thanks so much!!!!

PS... I'll be sure to make him aware of his infectious computer skills! :cyclopsani:

Excellent!

:D

Looks so much better.

I would like you to delete the following folder:-

    c:\documents and settings\Jeffro\Local Settings\Application Data\nsydma

You should Download and Install the newest version of Adobe Reader for reading pdf files, due to the vulnerabilities in earlier versions.
All versions numbered lower than 9.2 are vulnerable.
  • Go HERE and click on AdbeRdr920_en_US.exe to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Update Java Runtime

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 18.
  • Go to Java Site
  • Scroll down to where it says "JDK 6 Update 18 (JDK or JRE)"
  • Click the orange Download JRE button to the right
  • Select the Windows platform from the dropdown menu
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 with JavaFX License Agreement". Click on Continue. The page will refresh
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation & save the file to your desktop
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 3 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE) listed below in the code box.
    Code: Select all
    Java(TM) 6 Update 6

  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u18-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version
  • After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
    • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button
    • Next, click on the Delete Files button
    • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
        Applications and Applets
        Trace and Log Files
    • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE
    • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
    • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel

Hi, the ESET didn't produce a log. All it said on the final screen was that no treats were found.

Looks good any problems?

This following tool can be downloaded to both you and your husbands desktop. It is a great utility for cleaning temp files and can be used whenever you like.

Download and Run ATF Cleaner
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.
Make sure that all browser windows are closed.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    Under Main choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser,To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

If you are not having any further problems, I would suggest you proceed as follows.

MBAM and ATF are great tools for you to keep and use on a regular basis.

You can delete RSIT from your Desktop and it associated folder C:\RSIT

Uninstall ComboFix:

  • Click on Start >> Run...
  • Now type in ComboFix /Uninstall into the and click OK.
  • Note the space between the X and the /Uninstall, it needs to be there.
  • Image

The above procedure will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points

Now that the infection is gone lets try to keep it that way by following the below recommendations.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system. If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Read some information here how to prevent Malware.

Hi,

Everything seems to working great now. The only thing I have noticed that is a bit weird is when I log on to Hubbie's account and it's been a while (computer goes into sleep mode) is that I get a pop up window that says you are not connected to the internet and pick a server to connect (with MSN in the drop-down Menu). Once I click connect then the webpage will be displayed but other wise I get a message that says this webpage can't be displayed. I just want to see if this is normal with the features that I've put on since cleaning up the machine.

My account works fine.

Thanks again for all your help! You guys really do amazing work, and I (and Hubbie) do appreciate it greatly!

Sounds more like some setting issue. Check the Lan settings, from Internet Explorer click on tools, then select internet options. Click on the connections tab then lan settings.
Make sure all three options are unchecked then click ok.

Let me know if they were or were not checked and if it helped.
