Selecting the User Login quickly returns to Logon screen

Unread postby sslay » January 18th, 2010, 2:32 am

After running virus removal software (Superantivirusremoval, Adaware, Spybot) to remove Internet Security 2010 virus, now I cannot login in to Windows. When select the User Logon icon, get a quick flash of the desktop, then comes back to the User Logon screen.
When I do a Ctrl-Alt-Del I get the following message window:
In border of window "GoogleUpdagter.exe - Bad Image"
with something to the effect of c:\windows\system32\helper32.dll not a valid Microsoft Image...."

I cannot logon, so cannot use any "windows" solutions. I can boot up off of a recovery CD and get to a C: or D: prompt.

I searched the web and tried the following, with no solution:

Copied Userinit.exe to \Windows\System32\winlogon.exe

Copied Userinit.exe to \Windows\System32\winlogon32.exe

Copied Userinit.exe to \Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe

Copied Userinit.exe to \Windows\System32\helper32.dll

I know there is something that can be done to get me logged in, I just haven't found the right combination.

When I select the User logon icon, what would cause it to immediately return back to the logon screen?

ANy help would be appreciated.

thanks,
Stan

You should not have started a topic in the 72 hour bump room. The 72 hour bump room is for posting a request for help with a log topic that has been posted for 72 or more hours in the Malware Removal room. You do not have a topic in the Malware Removal room.

In order for us to help you it is necessary that you provide us with a HijackThis log. However, we understand you are unable to do that because you cannot log in. If you find a way to log into your system, please follow the guideline at the link below to start a new topic in the Malware Removal room and paste your HijackThis log into your post. Do not utilize attachments. If you cannot log into your system, then you will most likely need to reformat your computer and reinstall your Windows operating system.

This topic is now closed. If able, please start a new topic by following the HijackThis Guideline posted here: >Guideline for posting your HijackThis log<
