I was able to remove Malware Defense but that's as far as I could go. I cannot run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. I tried removing it and reinstalling it but it won't run. I didn't try anything else.

ETA: There are many many error messages coming up when I do anything on that computer. I get several error messages about IE and Firefox having a problem and asking if I want to send an error report. I also get messages about the infecting files on my computer. I have to cancel or click "x" to do anything but they keep coming back. The only way to run Firefox is if I DON'T click on the Don't Send Error report and just let that message stay up and move it around the screen so I can see what I'm doing. HTH.

Hi,
No worries.
Let's try this.
Please make sure you still have MBAM in your system. (If you uninstalled, please install it again, and proceed with these instructions.)

First,
Rkill
Please download from one of the following links and save to your Desktop:
One, Two,Three or Four
  • Double click on Rkill.
  • A command window will open then disappear upon completion, this is normal.
  • Please leave Rkill on the Desktop until otherwise advised.
Note: If your security software warns about Rkill, please ignore and allow the download to continue.

Next,
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - Random
  • Please download this randomize rename file and save to the desktop.
  • Move the file into the Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder on the infected PC and double click the file to launch it.
  • Then malwarebytes should run.
Note : If the Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware still can't run, please rename the file to explorer.exe
  • Click on Update tab > Check for Updates.
  • Once done, click on Scanner tab, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    Image
  • Refer to above image and then click Remove Selected to proceed.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the log back into your next reply
Note:

Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Unread postby tahoe94 » January 17th, 2010, 6:08 pm

I'm not able to download the RKill from this infected computer. I tried all four links and I also tried going to just their homepage but every time I tried I got this message:

Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at download.bleepingcomputer.com.
* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I'll now wait for your reply.
