Help with possible TDSS virus

Unread postby Eduardo » December 9th, 2009, 7:24 am

Problem Description:

My computer was very slow and with unexpected behavior.

I have performed complte scans with anti-virus AVG, Norton, Mcafee and trendmicro.
I couple of virus have been detected and cleaned or quarentined, but the problem continues.

One of the detected and cleaned virus was a downloader virus.

After that, the computer continues very slow and I have noticed weird behavior when acessing bank accounts.

The banks I usually access may be identified by the letters cef, bb, uni or abn.

In the Internet Explorer, "Tools", "Complements" I have verified that there are complements related to the banks listed above that CAN NOT BE DISABLED. These are the only ones that can not.

These complements are all related to a specific foldet (GbPlugin) in the Programs Folder. The files in this folder have in their names, indication of the above banks.

I have tried to delete these files (from command prompt, initializing Windows in safe mode etc..) but it is impossible (appears a message telling that they are been used by other users)

The files names are: gbieh.dll 1510, gbiehabn.dll 2210, gbiehcef.dll 2210, gbiehuni.dll 2710, gbpsv.exe 2710, abn.gpc 112, uni.gpc 112, Cef.gpc 312, bb.gpc 312, gbieh.gmd 312.

Reading the Trendmicro site I suspect that the virus is of the TDSS type.

I have looked at the folder Windows/System32/drivers and found a file gbpkm.sys, created in the same day (27/10/2009) that the file gppsv.exe was created.

By the way, the sequence the files were created is this (they are all in the folder Programs Folders/GbPlugin, with the exception of the above mentioned gbpkm.sys):

oct/15/2009: gbieh.dll
oct/22/2009: gbiehabn, gbpdist.dll and gbiehcef.dll (I may have accessed the banks CEF and ABN these days).
oct/27/2009: gbiehuni.dll, gbpsv.exe and gbpkm.sys (this one in the Windows folder above)
The files cef.gpc, abn.gpc, bb.gpc and uni.gpc and gbieh.gmd appears to be updated regularly.
The latest dates are december 5 and 6 when I have been busy at the internet.

I have tried to stop related processes using task manager, but it returns.

I also tried to change the Windows initialization, dehactivating these files but this did not worked also.

In the hijackthis log file there are various entries related to these files.

If the virus is indeed the TDSS, what would be the correct procedure to wipe it out?
May I simply delete the file gbpkm.sys?

Best regards,

Eduardo Brick

I have had problem attaching the hijackthis log (the extension was not accepted) so I reproduce it below:
