Hi makem2230,

OK... sorry about that, I wasn't aware there would be a conflict. We'll use a different online scanner.
You've already run the Steps 1 and 2, thanks for the OTM results log. Please pick up here with the remaining steps.

Step 3.
ESET NOD32 Online Scan
Note: You - will - need to use Internet Explorer for this scan!
Vista users: You will need to to right-click on the IE icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.
Please temporarily disable your Anti-virus real-time protection. If active, it could impact the online scan.
Please go to ESET Online Scanner - © ESET All Rights Reserved... to run an online scan.
** Make sure you are using an account that has Administrative privileges **
Press the "ESET Online Scanner" button.
  1. Check the box next to "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
  2. Click "Start"... a window will open... it may appear nothing is happening... please be patient.
  3. Click Yes... at the run ActiveX prompt. Click Install... at the install ActiveX prompt.
Once installed, the scanner will be initialized.
  4. Click "Start". Make sure that the options:
    • Remove found threats is UNCHECKED
    • Leave the "default" settings under Advanced as they are, if not set , please check:
      • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
      • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
      • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  5. Click "Start"... ESET scanner will begin to download the virus signatures database.
When the signatures have been downloaded, the scan will start automatically.
  6. Wait for the scan to finish... it may take a while... please be patient. When the scan is finished...
  7. Use Notepad to open the log file located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  8. Copy and paste the contents of log.txt in your next reply.

Remember to enable your Anti-virus protection... before continuing!

Step 4.
Re-run - RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)
You should still have this program on your desktop.
  1. Right click on RSIT.exe and select "Run As Administrator" to run it. If Windows UAC prompts you, please allow it.
  2. Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
RSIT will start running. When done... ONLY the "C:\RSIT\log.txt"...will be reproduced.<<will be maximized
  3. Please post ONLY the "log.txt", file contents in your next reply.

Step 5.
Please include in your next reply:
  1. Any problem executing the instructions?
  2. ESET online scan results.
  3. RSIT log.txt file contents.
  4. How is the computer behaving?
Thanks,
Wingman

Hello makem2230,

You have repeatedly said you would post the requested logs, yet fail to do so.
If you have so much going on, that you are unable to comply with my instructions, within the accepted time frame, the best thing for me (and you) is have this topic closed.

When you know you will have enough time to devote to your computer problems and the person trying to help, post back with fresh a HJT log and wait for a new helper. I must warn you however, returning to the forum again and not responding, due to whatever reason, may cause your requests for help to be ignored or you may have a wait an extended period of time, for a response.

In all fairness to you, me and all those still waiting for help, I will now ask for this topic to be closed.

Thanks,
Wingman

Re: Computer Running lots of uneeded processors (Slow PC)

Unread postby Wingman » December 12th, 2009, 9:45 am

Hello makem2230
Please tell me what the C:\Windows\tasks\Driver Robot.job does.

I have to let you know that there is evidence that you had a keylogger infection.

Keylogger Warning
You computer was infected with malware known as a keylogger!
It is dangerous and incorrect to assume that because the keylogger has been removed the computer is now secure.
Keyloggers are very dangerous because they sit stealthily on your system, monitor all the keys you press
and can steal sensitive information to include your logins, passwords and private (financial) data.

Please take a minute to consider these guidelines:
  • If your computer was used for online banking, has credit card information or other sensitive data on it,
you should immediately disconnect from the Internet until your system is cleaned.
  • All passwords should be changed immediately to include those used for banking, email, eBay, PayPal and online forums.
You should consider them to be compromised.
  • Change passwords ... using a different computer and not the infected one.
If not, an attacker may get the new passwords and transaction information.
  • Banking and credit card institutions should be notified of the possible security breach.

Because your computer was compromised...
Please read "How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?"
Although the keylogger file has been identified and removed, your PC has likely been compromised and there is no way to be sure the computer can ever be trusted again. In some instances, such an infection may download/install other malicious files to your system.
The malware may leave so many remnants behind that security tools cannot find them.

Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of malware, the best course of action is to wipe the drive clean, reformat and reinstall the OS.
This is a decision that only you can make.

Here are some articles you can read, that may be beneficial:

Please let me know how you wish to proceed.
Thanks,
Wingman

Hello wingman, thank you for making the choice to continue to assist me, as for the
C:\Windows\tasks\Driver Robot.job
i do not know what this does... Or what it was intended for. (is this possibly malware?)

AS for the key logger... i am not really concerned as i do not do any internet banking or transactions on this computer. As for general passwords such as forums and the alike... nothing has happened up to now, and it won’t be the end of the world if they get changed as i could just get them reset... so i think
The course of action I’d like to take at the moment is to get my computer running back to how a quad core should, and when or if the key logger changes any of my passwords I’ll reformat. as reformatting is a last resort for me.

Thank you again for all of your help! i really do appritiate it!

Re: Computer Running lots of uneeded processors (Slow PC)

Unread postby Wingman » December 13th, 2009, 10:49 am

Hello makem2230
OK. As there is little showing that is malware related, we will remove the 4 files found in the ESET scan, 1 now and the rest later, as they pose no threat. Do not use the System Restore feature of Windows until I let you know. Now, let's see what programs we can eliminate from running at statup time.

Please do not add or remove any software, hardware or run any "fix" programs and/or remove any files unless instructed to do so, by me.

Please read these instructions carefully before executing and then perform the steps, in the order given.
lf, you have any questions or problems, executing these instructions, <<STOP>> do not proceed, post back with the question or problem.

Step 1.
These are some of the entries that can possibly be eliminated. It will be up to you to determine if their functionality is needed at startup.
What I want you to do, is tell me which of these entries you want removed... please copy and paste them directly from my post, into your reply, so there are no misunderstandings.

Hello makem2230
As you posted (with note) all the O4 entries, instead of only those, you wished removed, please verify the entries we are about to remove. If there are any found that should not be included, please eliminate that entry before execution or do not check it in the HJT step. I did not see the old AVG program in any of the Uninstall lists.

Also, please note the changes in the RSIT directions.

Step 1.
Fix HijackThis entries
Important!
Please temporarily disable any anti-spyware programs you are using, listed Here
...so they will not interfere with the entries we will be fixing in HijackThis.
  1. Run HijackThis
    Program located in C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\calvin.exe or hijackthis.exe
Whichever program you execute will be the same one you'll need to execute, to restore any removed entries.
If using Vista, you must right click (calvin.exe or hijackthis.exe) and choose "Run As Administrator".
    • If you are on the Main Menu page... Click "Do a system scan only"
    • If you are on the "scan & fix stuff" page... Press the Scan...button.
  2. When the scan finishes...Place a check mark next to the following entries (if they are still present):
*Only check those items listed below *
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundTray] C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SoundTray.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMAXPnP] C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\Core\smax4pnp.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [toolbar_eula_launcher] C:\Program Files\Packard Bell\GOOGLE_EULA\EULALauncher.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TomTomHOME.exe] "C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME\TomTomHOME.exe" -s

      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpeedTouch USB Diagnostics] "C:\Program Files\Thomson\SpeedTouch USB\Dragdiag.exe" /icon
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SaiMfd] C:\Program Files\Saitek\Software\SaiMfd.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RoxWatchTray] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\9.0\SharedCOM\RoxWatchTray9.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Profiler] C:\Program Files\Saitek\Software\ProfilerU.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Picasa Media Detector] C:\Program Files\Picasa2\PicasaMediaDetector.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSPService] C:\Program Files\CyberLink\MagicSports\Kernel\MagicSports\MSPMirage.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AppleSyncNotifier] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleSyncNotifier.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [!AVG Anti-Spyware] "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\avgas.exe" /minimized

      O4 - Startup: Webshots.lnk = C:\Program Files\Webshots\Launcher.exe
      O4 - Startup: Xfire.lnk = C:\Program Files\Xfire\xfire.exe
  3. After checking these items... CLOSE ALL open windows except HijackThis
  4. Click the Fix Checked...button. Choose YES...when prompted to fix the selected items.
  5. Once it has fixed them, close HijackThis and reboot your computer normally.

Step 2.
RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)
You should still have this program on your desktop. If so, just ignore the download instructions.
Please download RSIT by random/random... save it to your desktop.

Attention!
In order for both info and log files to be produced again, I need you to delete the existing RSIT folder:

  1. C:\RSIT <-- delete this entire folder , then...
  2. Right click on RSIT.exe and select "Run As Administrator" to run it. If Windows UAC prompts you, please allow it.
  3. Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
RSIT will start running. When done... 2 (Notepad) text files...will be produced.
The first one, "log.txt", <<will be maximized... the second one, "info.txt", <<will be minimized.
  4. Please post both... "log.txt" and "info.txt", file contents in your next reply.
(These logs can be lengthy, so post 1 log per reply please.)

Step 3.
Please include in your next reply:
  1. Any problem understanding the instructions?
  2. New RSIT log and info.txt files contents.
  3. How is the computer behaving?
Thanks,
Wingman
