Unread postby jet222 » November 11th, 2009, 2:40 pm

below is my hijack this log, i have been trying to log onto this site for about 2 days now, and my computer was not letting me. about 2 days ago, i was on the web, and my IE froze and all of a sudden i was getting crazy pop=ups, and 2 porgrams were running on my comp. they were "safety center" and "antivirus system pro" . i have been playing around with the running processes and doing web searches for what files may be problematic, and some of the issues have been solved. but it is still hard for me to access some websites, when i type in an address i am brought to a totally different web page. i ran a malwarebtes scan, and it found 9 files which were deleted, that is how got this far. but i am not able to download the most current update for that program because it is blocked. so i had to download hijack this from a different computer in my house and put it on the infected computer. during this infection i was blocked from regedit, and other similiar processes. i am now able to use regedit

below is my hijack this log.

Hi jet222

I'm afraid I have unpleasant news for you. There is evidence of several infections on your computer. One or more is a Password Stealer. It allows outsiders to monitor your Internet activity and private information. It then sends the stolen data to a hacker site.

If the Computer has been used for any important data, you are strongly advised to do the following, immediately:
  • Disconnect the infected computer from the internet and from any networked computers until the computer can be cleaned.
  • If you have ever used this computer for shopping, banking, or any transactions relating to your financial well being: Call all of your banks, credit card companies, and financial institutions, informing them that you may be a victim of identity theft, and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change ALL your online passwords -- for ISP login, email, banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, and any online forums or groups you belong to.
  • DO NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new password and transaction information.
  • Take any other steps you think appropriate for an attempted identity theft.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it is best that you know the full impact of this infection :(

Please read this for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

We can attempt to clean this machine but i can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

Thanks peku006

i would like to proceed with trying to clean up this computer.

but i do have 2 other computers on my network, when i noticed the infection i immediatley disconnected the network cable from the back of the infected computer, is it possible that i can post hijack this logs for the 2 other computers to make sure they are clean? we do not use the infected computer for banking, but we have made credit card purchases on the infected computer in the past, am i open to identity theft because of that? am i open to passwords being stolen even if i have never logged into anything after the infection?

Hi jet222

yes, we can check the other two, but first this computer .........one at a time
We can attempt to clean this machine but i can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards.

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:
This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply

Re: pop-up virus on my computer....please help me

Unread postby peku006 » November 16th, 2009, 3:13 pm

Hi jet222

1 - Run CFScript

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

Code: Select all
File::
c:\windows\Txeyedawevevuko.bin
c:\windows\Jkodu.dat
C:\aLbh.bat
C:\oqbkddrr.exe.dat
C:\oqbkddrr.exe
C:\luobk.exe

  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    Image
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

2 - Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Select the Update tab
  • Click Check for Updates
  • After the update have been completed, Select the Scanner tab.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

3 - Run Hijackthis
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad

4 - Status Check
Please reply with

1. the ComboFix log(C:\ComboFix.txt)
2. the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Log
3. a fresh HijackThis log

Re: pop-up virus on my computer....please help me

Unread postby peku006 » November 17th, 2009, 11:02 am

Hi jet222

it seems you don't have any evidence of an anti-virus software.

Anti-virus software are programs that detect cleans and erase harmful virus files on a computer
Web server or network.
Unchecked virus files can unintentionally be forwarded to others including trading partners and thereby spreading infection. Because new viruses regularly emerge anti-virus software should be updated frequently. Anti-virus software can scan the computer memory and disk drives for malicious code. They can alert the user if a virus is present and will clean delete (or quarantine) infected files or directories. Please download a free anti-virus software from one these excellent vendors NOW:

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts. If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

Please reply with

Re: pop-up virus on my computer....please help me

Unread postby peku006 » November 17th, 2009, 12:55 pm

Hi jet222
i plan on purchasing trend micro internet security pro form my home network. is that better than the avg i installed?

I never say what is better or worse, but it is important that you have one antivirus program installed
here is a site where they test the different programs

1 - Clean temp files

  • Please download TFC to your desktop
  • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
  • Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
  • If prompted, click Yes to reboot.

NOTE: Save your work.TFC will automatically close any open programs, let it run uninterrupted. It shouldn't take longer take a couple of minutes, and may only take a few seconds. Only if needed will you be prompted to reboot.

2 - Eset online scannner

You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  • Please go here then click on: Image
Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.
All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.
  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: Image
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is NOT checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on: Image
  • The virus signature database... will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close if you so wish, make sure you copy the logfile first!
  • Now click on: Image
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

How's the computer running now?

the computer seems to be running good, no weird pop-ups or anything. this computer has been disconnected from the network since the infection, it has been on, but haven't really been using it. i haven't noticed anything strange in the limited time i was using it to complete the cleaning process

Hi jet222
great to hear that your computer is working well :)

  • Download RootRepeal from the following location and save it to your desktop.
  • Unzip it to your Desktop
  • Double click RootRepeal.exe to start the program
  • Click on the Report tab at the bottom of the program window
  • Click the Scan button
  • In the Select Scan dialog, check:
    • Drivers
    • Files
    • Processes
    • SSDT
    • Stealth Objects
    • Hidden Services
    • Shadow SSDT
  • Click the OK button
  • Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:), and Click OK to start the scan

The scan can take some time. DO NOT run any other programs while the scan is running
  • When the scan is complete, the Save Report button will become available
  • Click this and save the report to your Desktop as RootRepeal.txt
  • Go to File, then Exit to close the program

Please reply with
RootRepeal.txt
