Last week I got the trojan Packed.Win32.Krap.w, by an e-mail from a colleague and it infected System restore. I have tried to remove it according to the instructions from our IT-department (turn of the system control and do a full scan - but no virus were found in scan).

I am not convinced my computer is safe now. Is the virus really gone? Did the virus got a chance to do any harm to the computer? Can anyone please help me with advises of how to proceed?

Nena,
I have examined your log, and I believe this to be a computer used for business, either personal or corporate.
If I could point you in the direction of our rules, which state under IF YOU NEED HELP:
We do not help in cleaning business or corporate computers. There may be restrictions and modifications installed on such machines that could be damaged or altered by the actions we take to remove Malware. There may also be legal issues regarding any loss of business data that we do not wish to deal with.
If you ask for help and, unknown to us, it involves a business computer, you need to understand that any damages resulting from our advice are YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

If this is indeed a business computer:
  • If it is a corporate computer, it is suggested that you take this issue to your IT department.
  • If this is a personal computer used for business (personal or corporate), it is suggested that you take this issue to your IT department, or your local PC repair store.
  • Please let me know you have read this so that the topic can be closed.

If my conclusion is incorrect about the use of the machine, please let me know in your next post.

If you have a recent version of Java on the machine, this is a public, non-invasive method to test:
Run an Online Kaspersky WebScan
  • Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the Program and Database downloads have finished, (may take a while), Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.

You could run it, and also a full scan with your resident F-Secure, and show both results to your IT department.

Hi askey127,

Sorry that I was unclear about the computer status. Yes, it is owned by the university I am working at, but the rules said it was my responsibility and I thought it would be worth the risk. And as I wrote in my first post, the IT department has declared the computer clean (on basis of the F-secure logs), but I am in doubt (although the slowness and freezing might just be caused by old computer age).

Anyway, I will try the Kaspersky scanner and the eventually contact the IT department again. Thanks for taking your time!
