Boot-Up problem. Please, look over my Hijack This log...

Unread postby MissingMyLogInScreen » September 7th, 2009, 4:50 pm

Hello,

As my Username states "MissingMyLogInScreen" that is what has happened recently.

The log in screen has always loaded when the computer boots-up and when it comes out of Standby mode.

However, recently, when booting-up the log In screen did not load. The "Welcome" was on the screen a little too long for comfort, and then the computer went straight to the desktop which also seemed to be sluggish to load.

In the past several days, a "New" virus (via ESET's online scanner) and two Trojans (Generic.2243894 and Generic.2245159) were found on my computer using BitDefender’s online scanner (I scan the computer weekly with numerous anti-viral programs).

However, despite the computer being cleaned and rescanning it to make sure, unfortunately, the computer is still doing the same thing when booting-up, and that’s when I decided to try Hijack This and upload the results to you to find out if there’s something still on my computer which might show in the files listed below that could be causing the problem with my computer’s ability to boot-up as before.

Thanks so much!

Hello,

Thank you for replying to my post.

At this time, my computer is still doing the same thing; the welcome screen is on for too long at boot-up and the boot-up log in screen does not load.

As usual, I have continued to scan with computer with multiple anti-virus programs but nothing has been found (though Trend Micro's 6.5 online scanner keeps telling me there is a security vulnerability MS08-076 even though my computer's operating system is completely up to date).

Below are two of the three files you requested (the RSIT log will be in a second post)

The first is all CKScanner showed:

CKScanner - Additional Security Risks - These are not necessarily bad
scanner sequence 3.RP.11
----- EOF -----

Below is the info log from RSIT:

Re: Boot-Up problem. Please, look over my Hijack This log...

Unread postby Dakeyras » September 14th, 2009, 7:30 am

Hi :)

OK thanks for the situation update. Please do not make any other changes and or run any scans without myself advising/asking for such, thank you.

You have several system conflicts which we will address shortly. This is caused by having multiple installed security related applications active in system memory. Apart from causing a conflict as mentioned this actually lessons overall online protection.

Also you have some adware related applications installed. Adobe when out of date is a security risk, we will update this in due course. Leaving older versions of Java installed is also a security risk.

FixPolicies:

Please download to your Desktop FixPolicies.exe, a self-extracting ZIP archive from here.

  • Double-click FixPolicies.exe.
  • Click the "Install" button on the bottom toolbar of the box that will open.
  • The program will create a new Folder called FixPolicies.
  • Double-click to Open the new Folder, and then double-click the file within: Fix_Policies.cmd.
  • A black box should briefly appear and then close.
  • Leave FixPolicies on your desktop please until I otherwise advice, thank you.

Next:

Now please go to Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Ad-Aware
Adobe Reader 8.1.6
Crawler Toolbar with Web Security Guard
Freecorder Toolbar
Freecorder Toolbar 3.0
Java(TM) 6 Update 7
Spyware Doctor 6.0
Spyware Terminator

To do so, click once on each of the above in turn to highlight and then click on the Remove button.

Note: Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Next:

Please re-open HiJackThis and select Do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below (if present):

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
