Google redirect Virus

Unread postby sabzee » August 16th, 2009, 9:54 pm

My computer got infected with the security system virus a few days ago. I downloaded and ran malware bytes and spybot to remove it. Then yesterday, spybot picked up skynet and removed that.
But since the initial infection, I'm still having google redirect problems. (only google)
I have win xp.
i ran smitfraudfix but it apparently didn't catch anything. (i didn't do the clean) (and have uninstalled it)
I ran gmer today and it caught a couple of things including skynet (again) but I haven't taken any actions.
here's my hijackthis file. I posted on another forum but haven't received any answers so am posting here now. I'm worried about rootkits and trojans as I use this computer for online banking.

Hi sabzee

Please download GMER by GMER. An alternate download site.
  1. Unzip it to a folder on your desktop.
  2. Double click on gmer.exe to execute.
If asked, allow the gmer.sys driver load.
  3. If you get a warning prompt about rootkit activity ... asking if you want to run Scan, click OK.
  4. If you don't get a warning then...
    • Click the Rootkit/Malware tab at the top of the GMER window.
    • Click the Scan button.
  5. Once the scan has finished... click Copy. ... Do not close the GMER window yet...
  6. Open Notepad and paste what you copied. Ctrl+V
  7. Select "Save As" in Notepad...saving the file to your desktop as "gmerroot.txt"... then close Notepad.

    In the GMER window...
  8. Click on the >>> tab at the top of the GMER window.
This displays the rest of the "selection" tabs for you.
  9. Click on the Autostart tab.
  10. Click on Scan button.
  11. Once the scan has finished... click Copy.
  12. Open Notepad (again) and paste what you copied. Ctrl+V
  13. Select "Save As" in Notepad...saving the file to your desktop as "gmerauto.txt"
  14. Copy and paste the contents of the files gmerroot.txt and gmerauto.txt in you next reply.

Thanks for your reply.
I just want to say that I got a little impatient (It's been 5 days - 3 days on another forum and 2 on this) and ran eset scan yesterday which picked up 2 trojans and deleted them. I don't seem to be having the google redirect problem anymore but I may be missing something.

Re: Google redirect Virus

Download at your desktop DDS from one of the links below:

Link 1
Link 2
  • Double click the tool to run it.
  • A black Screen will open, just read the contents and do nothing.
  • When the tool finish it will open 2 reports.
  • Copy/paste both reports back here and remove DDS from your desktop.

Hello,
Here is the dds file as requested. There is one peculiarity I wish to mention... my system restore isn't working. It won't create a restore point nor will it go to one.
Looking forward to your feedback.

Good :)

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Please click this link-->Jotti

Copy/paste file on the list into the white Upload a file box and click Submit/Send (depends on which one you are using Jotti or VirusTotal).

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ansys_lm.exe

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/
