Hello and welcome to Malware Removal.

My name is km2357 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

If for any reason you do not understand an instruction or are just unsure then please do not guess, simply post back with your questions/concerns and we will go through it again.

Please do not start another thread or topic, I will assist you at this thread until we solve your problems.

Lastly the fix may take several attempts and my replies may take some time but I will stick with it if you do the same.

Sorry for the delay in replying, the forum is very busy. If you still need help, please post a fresh HiJackThis Log

Hi km2357, thanks for the reply. I've been waiting for any response since day 1 I posted my concern and am glad to receive an email notification of your reply. I still need your help and it slowing my laptop performance. It takes forever to load a certain site from the internet and it affects mostly when I am encoding some data file. Here's a fresh log i made this day. Thanks again and will hope for your response.

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

BearShare

I'd like you to read the MRU policy for P2P Programs.

Please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

Please run a new HJT scan when finished and post the log back here.

Hi km2357, I already did the add/remove program way back before. The bearshare was no longer on the list as the programs were being populated. I've done some checking just this evening and deleted all the bearshare folder and files itself. Here's the new HJT logfile..and i can see still the bearshare as part of the toolbar.

To remove the HJT BearShare entries, do the following:

Step # 1: Remove Hijackthis Entries

  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

    O2 - BHO: UrlHelper Class - {74322BF9-DF26-493f-B0DA-6D2FC5E6429E} - C:\Program Files\BearShare Applications\BearShare MediaBar\BearShareIEHelper.dll (file missing)

    O3 - Toolbar: BearShare MediaBar - {D3DEE18F-DB64-4BEB-9FF1-E1F0A5033E4A} - C:\Program Files\BearShare Applications\BearShare MediaBar\BearShareMediaBar.dll (file missing)

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.

Step # 2: Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Step # 3 Download and Run RSIT

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

1. Uninstall List
2. The two RSIT Logs (log and info.txt)

Step # 1: Add/Remove Programs

Go to Start-Settings-Control Panel, click on Add Remove Programs. If any of the following programs are listed there, click on the program to highlight it, and click on remove. Then close the Control Panel.

MediaBar 2.0

Reboot your Computer.

Step # 2: Download and Run ComboFix

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

*Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include C:\ComboFix.txt and a fresh HiJackThis Log in your next reply.

Use multiple posts if you can't fit everything into one post.

Step # 1 Update Adobe Acrobat Reader

There is a newer version of Adobe Acrobat Reader available. (See Note below)

  • First, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall all previous versions.
  • Please go to this link Adobe Acrobat Reader Download Link
  • On the right Untick Adobe Phototshop Album Starter Edition if you do not wish to include this in the installation.
  • Click the Continue button
  • Click Run, and click Run again
  • Next click the Install Now button and follow the on screen prompts

Note: Adobe 9.1.2 is a large program and if you prefer a smaller program you can get Foxit 3.0 instead from http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

If you decide to install Foxit 3.0 instead of Adobe, do the following during Foxit's Setup/Installation process:

Uncheck the following boxes:

I accept the License Terms and want to install Foxit Toolbar

Make Ask.com my default search

Create desktop, quick launch and start menu icon to eBay

Step # 2: Run Kaspersky Online Scan

Please make sure that all programs are closed when installing Java.

  1. Click here to visit Java's website.
  2. Scroll down to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 14. Click on Download.
  3. Select Windows from the drop-down list for Platform.
  4. Select Multi-language from the drop-down list for Language.
  5. Check (tick) I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 14 License Agreement box and click on Continue.
  6. Click on jre-6u14-windows-i586-p.exe link to download it and save this to a convenient location.
  7. Double click on jre-6u14-windows-i586-p.exe to install Java.
  8. After the Java installation has finished, please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
  9. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  10. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  11. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  12. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  13. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  14. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  15. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....

Re: Locked Task Manager

Hi km2357. I just thought of letting you know that I am having a hard time doing the Kaspersky Online Scanning. It kept on failing at the mid of downloading updates. I've been trying to download it since yesterday and gain the same result. In case you might wonder why I am not still posting the new log and reports of Kaspersky. Regarding my computer, still it is slow opening some files and especially when I run the internet. I would like to change my Norton Antivirus to Avira but would like to ask you for opinion before I uninstall it. If it is best for me to use Avira. Norton is quite heavy and just had the thought that it might have been one of the reason why my compy froze a lot. Other than that, I am not experiencing any trouble. Just the slow performance. The task Manager has been enabled but I don't have the process tab. I hope you can help me with this as well as the trouble in doing the Kaspersky Online Scan. Thanks

Try Kaspersky's online scanner one more time, if it fails again, then you can try another online scanner:

I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  1. Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  2. Click the Image button.
  3. For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    1. Click on Image to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    2. Double click on the Image icon on your desktop.
  4. Check Image
  5. Click the Image button.
  6. Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  7. Check Image
  8. Push the Start button.
  9. ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  10. When the scan completes, push Image
  11. Push Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  12. Push the Image button.
  13. Push Image

I would like to change my Norton Antivirus to Avira but would like to ask you for opinion before I uninstall it. If it is best for me to use Avira. Norton is quite heavy and just had the thought that it might have been one of the reason why my compy froze a lot.

Norton is a known resource hog and uninstalling it and replacing it with Avira can definitely help with speeding up your computer. I'd say go ahead and replace Norton with Avira, if you so want to.

Here's what to do:

First, download Avira from the link below:

Antivir PersonalEdition Classic

Next, unplug your computer from the Internet and uninstall Norton. Once Norton is uninstalled, reboot your computer.

Once your computer has booted back up, install Avira.

Finally, once Avira is installed, reconnect your computer to the Internet and download any updates for Avira.

Also, for the slowness of your computer you can also try the tips at the link below to see if they help any:

The task Manager has been enabled but I don't have the process tab

To fix this, just open up Task Manager and double-click at the top of the Task Manager window. This should make the Process Tab appear.

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

1. Either the Kaspersky or ESET Log
2. Is the Process Tab back in Task Manager?

Hi km2357, thanks for the advice regarding the installation of Avira. Regarding the Process tab, i got it back, thanks also. I did tried running the kaspersky online scanning but still it failed at mid-downloading the updates so I go for the next option you gave me. It did went on the first process but right on the next process it stopped. It sent a notification about proxy connection not being configured or something? So I went back on the second process of downloading signature database. I ran out of time, I may not be able to log on tomorrow so I will continue the process by the following day. Thanks in advance.
