Re: Please help!

_________________________________
Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant.
Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear.
Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
So lets do this to the end!

  • Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.
  • DO NOT be installing new programs while you run Hijackthis.
  • If I do not hear from you in 5 days from my last post this topic will be closed.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

\FrostWire

We have noticed that most people seeking help from us are coming with infections contracted from the use of P2P programmes.

I'd like you to read the MRU policy for P2P Programs.

Please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

Also one other thing. I have the new aim on my computer, but every time I install it, it seems to not work the second time around. I am trying to erase it but it continues telling me that I do not have permission when I am on the master account. Sorry for the inconvenience, I hope you can help me correct this problem.

Have you removed FrostWire 4.13.5 as I asked ? I still see it in add/remove programs.

I first want to rule out malware then we will look into fixing your problems.

I see that Viewpoint is installed.

Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". In 2006, this may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.

I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present:
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
If AOL is present, to prevent it from being recreated every time you run the AOL software:
  • Open AOL
  • Go to Help on the toolbar
  • Select About AOL
  • Hit Ctrl D and a secret panel can be accessed which will allow you to disable all desktop and IM features associated with Viewpoint.
Another way to prevent Viewpoint from being recreated every time you run the AOL software is:
  • Click C:\Program Files\AOL 9.0\Jiti (a hidden folder).
  • Rename viewpoint.exe to viewpoint.old.

This scan will take a while.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan. This scan will take a while so don't plan on watching it. ;)

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply.

In your next reply I would like to see:
  • A new HJT log
  • The report from Kasperskys
  • Be certain Frost wire is removed from this system.

Hello, I would like to keep frostwire, it has not given me any viruses and I make sure to only download specific songs and things like that. But I have done everything else. I still don't know how to remove aim from my computer because it still does not let me. And I am about to install vista service pack 2. Also one more question, I see I have java 6 update 13, but I know 14 is out already, what should I do? here are the hjt logs and the kaspersky scan.

If your helper detects the presence of such programmes on your computer he/she will ask you to remove them. We will withdraw our help should you not agree to their removal.

If you would like to keep frost wire I will have to have this thread closed.
If it shows up in any further scans I have to have it closed.
The choice is yours.
