WinPC / Spyware Protect 2009 / Packed.Generic.200 virus

Issues: got WinPC Defender virus this morning. Removed, then got Spyware Protect 2009, and having intermittent hijacking of IE8 (but not Google Chrome). Norton AV is running and keeps finding Packed.Generic.200 despite following the detailed Symantec cleanup steps, including disabling the System Backup. Have used Norton, CCleaner, Ad-Aware, Spybot (which would not load), and now HJT as part of the attempts to clean up. Ran Norton in Safe Mode to no avail as well.

Malwarebytes will not install, even after renaming. Hangs at the last stage of installation. It hangs during uninstall. Program is present in Start menu, but does not run.

IEXPLORE.EXE runs in the background, even when closed. Every time I start it is says "did not close correctly."

Scandisk will not work, and CHKDSK /F will cause the system to not boot properly.

I have had to do several hard power-downs due to freezing at start up.
