Virtumonde

Unread postby bangoman » April 14th, 2009, 10:37 pm

Summary of Virtumonde problem: I was having a problem with pop-ups in Firefox, so I ran a full scan on my computer using Webroot Spysweeper, which detected "Troj/Virtum-Gen" (aliases: Virtumonde, Virtumundo, Vundo, etc.). I unsuccessfully attempted to remove the malware using Webroot and Symantec anti-virus. My next move was to install Sophos Anti-virus and uninstall Webroot/Spysweeper, since my school has transitioned from Webroot/Spysweeper to Sophos. I scanned my computer with Sophos and while it can detect Virtumonde, it cannot delete it from my system.

Upon claims that it would be effective at removing Virtumonde from my computer, I purchased Spy Doctor with Anti-virus and scanned my computer. It detected Virtumonde and claimed to have "fixed" the bug; however, after I rebooted, Sophos continued to alert me that it was blocking various Virtumonde processes in the background (I typically get 200+ such messages while my system is running).

Current Status: While I no longer have trouble with pop-ups, my computer appears to be sluggish and slow to respond. The majority of my Sophos Virtumonde alerts occur when I open and close programs.

You will find my hijackthis.log posted below. Please let me know whether I left anything out and what I should do next. Thank you.

Hello bangoman,

I apologise for the delay, the forum is busy.

If you still need help, post a new HijackThis log.

You can't have 2 Anti-Virus programs running. Please uninstall one of them before posting a new HijackThis log.

Due to lack of activity this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
