Hoping to receive help

I am hoping to get help in removing malware that's causing Firefox to crash randomly and google searches redirected to spam/advertisement sites. Running a full Norton scan found and removed 4 viruses, but did not fix the problem and I have no idea how I got infected in the first place. I am afraid to use the computer, so I hope to get some help soon. Thank you very much in advance,
