Hi GT2009,

Welcome to MRU. My name is davis. I will be helping you to fix your malware problems.
If your issues have been resolved or already received help elsewhere, then please let us know. If not, and still need help. Please follow the instructions in the following.
In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer. Please rescan your computer and post a new HJT log and an Uninstall List.

Make an Uninstall List

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button
5. Click on the Save list button
6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default, it's named uninstall_list.txt.
7. Copy and paste the contents in your next reply and a fresh HJT log.

In your next reply, please post back:

1.New HJT log
2.Uninstall list

Please detail the problems you're experiencing.Thanks.

my only symptom is that everything lags...from starting up, which takes like 5-8 full minutes, to opening programs. music usually skips for like the first 15 seconds of play, etc. and my recording program won't even run properly.

ETA:
Noone will be fuirther working on my computer but your site from this point forward. In the past week a friend and I tried but did not succeed. Nothing has been done since these postings of "hijack this" and "uninstall this"

Hi GT2009,

Step1

Regarding to Malware Removal's P2P Programs Policy, please uninstall the following program before we continue:

  1. Click on Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Locate LimeWire4.18.8 and click on the Change/Remove button to uninstall it.
  3. Close Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel when done.

Step2

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

In your next reply, please post back:

1.RSIT log.txt and info.txt. Thanks.

Re: hi-jack this log-file (urgent)

Unread postby GT2009 » March 18th, 2009, 12:34 pm

Davis,

I'm not sure if this information helps, but my anti-virus program and firewall always takes ten minutes or so to open* upon restart, allowing a windows security alert to pop up before-hand and tell me I might be at risk because I'm not running a fire-wall.

I don't know if that information helps but I figured it may.

Thanks,

Hi GT2009,

In your uninstall list, you have Webroot Firewall installed in your system. Is it a pay version?

I will check your status a little while and get back to you asap.

Yes. When I first bought my computer like 4-5 years ago, it came with a paid subscription to Webroot Spysweeper.

About 2 updates or so, ago, it became "Webroot Anti-virus and Fire-wall."

I just repaid my subscription last weekend.

Hi GT2009,

As to your windows security alert you don't run Firewall, please go to Here for your reference. After that, please do the following:

Step1

I notice there are some unwanted programs installed in your system. Those unwanted programs are sometimes malware related or potential hazard to your security. You're well advised to remove them.

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
In Add or Remove Programs, highlight (If found)

Ask.com Toolbar
Viewpoint Media Player

and click on Change/Remove to remove it.

Step2

We need temporarily disabe Spyweeper real time protection or it may interfere.

  1. Right click on Spysweeper icon near the clock and select Shields.
  2. Click on the Web Browser tab. Uncheck all the boxes there.
  3. Click on the Network tab. Uncheck all the boxes there.
  4. Click on the Windows System tab. Uncheck all the boxes there.
  5. Click on the Startup tab. Uncheck Startup items box.
  6. Click on the Email Attachments tab. Uncheck Email Attachments* box.
  7. Right click on Spysweeper icon and select Shutdown.
  8. Note:you can re-enable it after your system is clean.

Step3

We need temporarily disable Windows Defender real time protection or it may interfere too.

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Defender.
  2. Click on Tools at the top.
  3. Under Settings, click on Options.
  4. Under Automatic scanning, uncheck (untick) Automatically scan my computer (recommended) box.
  5. Under Real-time protection options, uncheck (untick) Use real-time protection (recommended) box.
  6. Click on the Save button at the bottom right hand corner.

Step4

If you already have Combofix, please delete that copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofi ... e-combofix

Note: CombFix has recently been updated to include the option for installing the Recovery Console automatically. You will see the below prompt when you first run ComboFix:

Image

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once Recovery Console is installed, you should see a blue screen prompt like the one below:

Image

1.Close/disable all antivirus and antimalware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

2.Click Yes to allow Combofix to continue scanning for malware.

When done, a log will be produced (or locate it in C:\ComboFix.txt). Please post that log in your next reply.

Do not mouse click on Combofix while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

In your next reply, please post back:

1.Combofix log
2.New HJT log Thanks

Hi GT2009,

Your log looks good. I don't see any particular offending objects in your system. We will do the final check to ensure your system is all clean. Until then, you should be good to go.

Step1

The following entries are optional. Those programs are not necessarily autoloaded from registry & at startup. You can use those programs while needed. Fixing checked the following entries might quicken the startup in your system.
If you feel comfortable about this, then please place checks next to the following entries.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlwaysReady Power Message APP] "C:\WINDOWS\ARPWRMSG.EXE"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HPHUPD08] "c:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\{33D6CC28-9F75-4d1b-A11D-98895B3A3729}\hphupd08.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HPBootOp] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Boot Optimizer\HPBootOp.exe" /run

ok, kapersky is running and i've got to go to work. ill be here on lunch around 1145 eastern time to post the log.

it's still lagging pretty much. it took 14 minutes to restart. windows itself took like 5 minutes and my anti-virus then took the rest, whereas before my issues it never had an issue. internet explorer runs smoothly, but my recording program (Cool Edit Pro 2.0) which was the "main" tester to see if I'm fixed, still doesn't run properly. It still takes 3 minutes to paste an MP3 into the recording program, whereas it used to be instantaneous.

Logs coming at 11:45 eastern standard time, US.

Hi GT2009,

If you have problem to run Kas online scan, please disable your Webroot antivirus and try it again.

If still no luck, please try the following instead:

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.

  1. Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  2. Click Start
  3. When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
  4. Click Start
  5. Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  6. Click Scan
  7. Wait for the scan to finish
  8. Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  9. Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

What's the version of your Webroot? The update version of Webroot seems need to install NET Framework 1.1 or 2.0 first. I don't see any NET Framework installed in your system. You may refer to the following thread.

http://support.webroot.com/cgi-bin/webr ... _topview=1

http://support.webroot.com/cgi-bin/webr ... _topview=1

Are you sure your problem is malware related? There doesn't appear to be anything sinister in your log. In real practice, i will troubleshoot this problem in the following:

1.Did any alerts be received from your antivirus program? If no significant message received, then go to next step.
2.Restart your pc. When the Windows loaded, press Ctrl+Alt+Del, click Processes, which one keeps taking almost 100% cpu? If Hp printer is the issue, please go to Here, Try Nitin Kohli instruction.
3.Did you install any programs before this issue happened? If yes, uninstall it and restart the pc. If no, then go to next step.
4.Unplug the internet access and uninstall Webroot first and reboot the computer. If the lagging issue is resolved, Cool Edit Pro remains stall. uninstall Cool Edit Pro and reinstall it.

Let me know how things went.

Ok Davis, This will be a long detailed message. In order, here's everything I've done today:

Added a GIG of RAM.

I got kaspersky online scanner to work. There was nothing on the scan report, at all.
Then, I un-hooked from the net and uninstalled both my Webroot anti-virus and my webroot firewall. I also uninstalled my Cool Edit Pro 2.0 (recording program).

I then reinstalled my recording program, and it still ran shotty, with no anti-virus program and or other program at all running.

I turned hibernation option off because I read that it can use up a lot of memory.

I restarted, still not hooked to the internet, and still not having reinstalled my anti-virus.

My computer was slower than ever after loading up. I went to my task manager while it was booting, and the things were popping in and out too quickly to tell what was what. I did write as quickly as I could what was running; however. Once I was all booted up, I went back into task manager. My CPU usage was toggling from 2% to 100%, and my computer kept "thinking," but I had zero programs open. Below is a list of things that kep popping up in processes using cpu (on and off, randomly, without me clicking, moving my mouse, or having any programs open at all). This is not a complete list, just ones I could see quickly enough.

mdnsresponder.exe
sys idle process (using 99 cpu, almost always)
services.exe
jqs.exe (another one frequently popping up)
wmiprvse.exe
googletoolbarnotifier.exe
alg.exe
system
elmsas.exe
svchost.exe
dllhose.exe
wauclt.exe

Also something peculiar, don't know if it means anything. I had a folder on my desktop called "Sardae beats" which was downloaded through USB (audio files) a while back. (way before my issue). I deleted it, and upon every restart it would return, even if I emptied recycle bin. After rebooting since I deleted my anti-virus, the folder (for the first time ever) didn't come back. I found this peculiar.

So I then downloaded my anti-virus program from my registration confirmation email directly from the company. Before "installing" I ran a hijack this log. Here it is:
