Did you download combofix to the desktop first?

Did you copy and paste or type?
ComboFix /RestoreRun there must be a space between x and /

Ok , lets start from the begining and download again, see how we go, and don't worry we will get there :)

Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Image
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Image
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

If you need help, see this link:

Post back:

Hi Dan

I ran combofix but my p.c eventually froze so i left on all night and then had to switch off.
It seems to have cleared the VIRUS ALERT! on the task bar but not sure if it's all gone.
(Please see Hi jack log below)

If it is all clear i would be greatfull if you can advise how to prevent this in future.
I always use AVG and always scan evrything i download but this has happend a few times now so i must be doing somthing wrong!
Your advise would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Ruth

Ruth, if we are to get to the bottom of this we need to post a little more regular.
There is something not right with your log it's far too short, untill I can find out what's causing this problem I'm not able to put a fix forward
I need these scans to help me decide what our course of action will be.

Image
Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

Please download gmer.zip from Gmer and save it to your desktop.

  1. Right click on gmer.zip and select Extract All....
  2. Click Next on seeing the Welcome to the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction Wizard.
  3. Click on the Browse button. Click on Desktop. Then click OK.
  4. Click Next. It will start extracting.
  5. Once done, check (tick) the Show extracted files box and click Finish.

Double click on gmer.exe to run it. It will start running a scan. If it detects rootkit activity, you will receive a prompt to run a full scan. Click Yes.

  • When done, you may receive another notice. Click OK.
  • Click on Save ... to save a log.
  • Copy and paste in Gmer.txt and click Save.
  • Close Gmer.

If you receive no notice, click on the Scan button.

  • It will start scanning again.
  • When done, click on Save ... to save a log.
  • Copy and paste in Gmer.txt and click Save.
  • Close Gmer.

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

In your next reply, please post:

  • DDS.txt
  • Attach.txt

Ruth, can you look here for me > C:\ComboFix.txt < copy and paste this text back to me if you find it.

Start > Run, type appwiz.cpl and click OK.

Uninstall the following:

CiD Help
Java(TM) 6 Update 5
Java(TM) 6 Update 7

Now close Control Panel.

--------------------------------------

Download to your Desktop FixPolicies.exe, a self-extracting ZIP archive from here: http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/BillCastner/FixPolicies.exe
  • Double-click FixPolicies.exe.
  • Click the "Install" button on the bottom toolbar of the box that will open.
  • The program will create a new Folder called FixPolicies.
  • Double-click to Open the new Folder, and then double-click the file within: Fix_Policies.cmd.
  • A black box should briefly appear and then close. This will enable your Control Panel and stop the Administrative warnings, at least until the malware infection resets the registry policy keys again. You can run this as many times as you like. A permanent fix requires removing the infection.

Download and Run OTMoveIt3

Download OTMoveIt3 by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit3.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
Code: Select all
:files
c:\windows\system32\REN17.tmp
c:\windows\system32\REN16.tmp
c:\windows\system32\REN15.tmp

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
