Malware problems, help!

Unread postby miazer0 » January 25th, 2009, 3:15 pm

hey!
recently ive been having a lot of problems with my computer (windows xp)
it started with a spyware guard 2009 popup and some fake scan and infection.
i've read some forums on bleepingcomputer and elsewhere and tried to remove the program manually.
i believe i have sucessfully removed it, but other problems started to arise.
These problems include things like:

-getting random popups and advertisements while use mozilla
-getting redirected from links on google to other websites
-extreme lag when i try to open anything

I ran malwarebytes anti-malware, and it seems to have stabilized my computer
so that i can actually use mozilla to seek help.
but it says "no action taken" for all of the infections it has detected

-another problem is that i cant open my C:\ drive from "my computer".

i scanned my computer using ad-aware, malwarebytes, avast, and
-i keep seeing this reoccuring virus, called vundo, virtumonde.

below is my hijackthis log, any help or suggests is appreciated. Andrew.

  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop.

Hi miazer0, :flower:

Multiple Anti-virus Programs
You are operating your computer with multiple Anti-virus programs running in memory at once:
  • Symantec/Norton
  • Avast

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash. Please remove one of them NOW.

Download DDS

Download to your desktop DDS from one of the links below:

Link1
Link2
Link3
  • Double click the tool to run it.
  • A black Screen will open, just read the contents and do nothing.
  • When the tool finishes it will open 2 reports.
  • Copy/paste both reports back here and remove DDS from your desktop.

Download and run Combofix
This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.
  • If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Image
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Image
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

If you need help, see this link:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please reply with:-
  • DDS log
  • Combofix.txt
  • New HJT log

Hi miazerO :flower:

MRU P2P Policy
IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

    µTorrent

I'd like you to read the MRU policy for P2P Programs.
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).
Run a new HJT scan when finished and post the log back here,so we can continue cleaning your pc.

You also have Free Music Zilla currently installed. I will have to check the status of this program as if it is classed as a P2P it will also have to be uninstalled before we continue.

Hi Miazer0 :flower:

IMPORTANT
One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be to reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can attempt to clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let me know what you decide

Please Note

If you should choose to Reformat and Reinstall you need to clean out files that are located on your F: Drive (this could be a USB stick or some other kind of external drive), if not done you will reinfect your machine.
The following files need to go:-
    F:\2fiji.com
    C:\uvsqfgwd.cmd

Hello,

i've decided that i do not wish to reformat my computer,
however in july or june i will be out of school and i will have the time
to reformat w/o worrying about losing anything vital to my academics.

I wish to clean my computer manually w/o reformatting,
however, the files you have listed,

F:\2fiji.com
C:\uvsqfgwd.cmd

are not to be found.
i do not have any F drive attached, nor do i remember having one when i scanned.
and the other .cmd file cannot be found.

when i searched "fiji" in my computer i came up with files named "fiji" from java, and apple,
however, both files seem to be related to timezones and cities, im not sure if they can be of harm.

is there any other way i can clean these trojan backdoors?

btw did you find out whether or not "Free Music Zilla" is safe?

Unfortunately there is no one particular place that would list all dangerous files. USB drives, like PC hard drives can become infected through what is downloaded on them, and/ or transferred from one to another. You can read about 2fiji.com Here

Please insert the infected USB in the computer before you continue with cleaning it.

btw did you find out whether or not "Free Music Zilla" is safe?

'Free Music Zilla' is ok to have at this stage and not classed as a P2P. Please take Note Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares

To continue with the cleaning:-

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    Code: Select all
    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\AndrewLui\Application Data\uTorrent

    File::
    c:\windows\AhnRpta.exe
    c:\documents and settings\AndrewLui\Application Data\00483f119a3513945e3146dec55affac1c3b87359b.dat

    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "UserFaultCheck"="c:\windows\system32\dumprep 0 -u"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
    "appinit_dlls"=""
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:0000000
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{1623d730-e727-11db-8740-e6b9c398ce98}]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\C]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{91b61d48-9269-11dc-89ee-0011117f6aff}]
    [HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
    "c:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe"=-
    "c:\\Program Files\\ABC\\abc.exe"=-

  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    Image
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

GMER

  • Download GMER by GMER from one of the links below:
    Link1
    Link2
  • Unzip it to a folder on your desktop
  • Double click on gmer.exe to launch GMER
  • If asked, allow the gmer.sys driver load
  • If it warns you about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan, click OK
  • If you don't get a warning then

    • Click the rootkit tab
    • Click Scan
  • Once the scan has finished, click copy
  • Paste the log into notepad using Ctrl+V
  • Save it to your desktop as gmerrk.txt
  • Click on the >>> tab
  • This will open up the rest of the tabs for you
  • Click on the Autostart tab
  • Click on Scan
  • Once the scan has finished, click copy
  • Paste the log into notepad using Ctrl+V
  • Save it to your desktop as gmerautos.txt
  • Copy and paste the contents of gmerautos.txt and gmerrk.txt as a reply to this topic

FindFile

Download FindFile by Atribune
  • Extract the contents to your Desktop
  • Double click on FileFind.exe to open the program.
  • Enter ckvo.exe into the File: box.
  • Click on the Search button.
  • After a while, if any files are found, a list of file locations will appear in the List of Files: box.
  • Click on the Export button.
  • This will create a Notepad file named Export.txt located in the C:\ folder, copy and paste it to your next post please.
  • Repeat the above for alehg.exe

Please reply with:-
  • Combofix log
  • Gmer log (gmerautos.txt)
  • Filefind log(export.txt)
  • New HJT log

Open Hijack This and select Do a System Scan Only place a check next to the below lines if still present

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u

Once selected close all windows except HJT an click on Fix Checked

CFScript
Close any open browsers.
Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the code box below into it:

Code: Select all
 File::
 c:\windows\system32\msln.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\TDSSmxst.sys

Reglock::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\TDSSserv.sys]

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\TDSSserv.sys]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:0000000

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt"
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Kaspersky Online Scan
Do an online scan with >Kaspersky Online Scanner<
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As...
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button
  • Please post this log in your next reply

Please reply with:-
    Combofix.txt
    Kaspersky report
    New HJT log

Re: Malware problems, help!

Unread postby muppy03 » February 10th, 2009, 6:23 am

Hi Miazer0

How’s the computer running? Any problems? If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

I see by your Uninstall List that you have Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware installed on your computer.

Please do a Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan using these settings:
    · Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
