Hidden virus?

Hi all,

I started a thread but could not reply to it due to health problems, my apologies for that.

As instructed I have started this new thread and pasted the HJT log file below.

I have a problem that I can't find any answers to and need some help please.

About 10 days ago I recieved a PM from a forum member that I also am a member of and two days later the same members name appeared in the dropdown list of users on the logon page of the forum.

I scanned my computer with AVG, Avira, Kaspersky online, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, NoAdware but none of them found anything.

In a further conversation via email with the member mentioned above he told me that another member who is personally known to him has, to show off, sent him a PM which contained a "dark spot". Upon clicking on this "spot" his AV came up with a virus warning. He was then told by this person that he was having a conversation on MSN with someone else and also told him whom he was having a conversation with.

I had no contact with the person mentioned above prior to his name appearing on my logon screen whether per email or PM.

My questions are:

Is it possible that my pc was infected by the person who sent me a PM although there wasn't a "dark spot" or any other images in the PM?

Is it possible to have a virus or a trojan that is "hidden" from AV/adware/malware programs?

Can anyone help please?

I'm sorry we couldn't help you sooner but as you can see the forums are extremely busy and our volunteer helpers are at full capacity. I'm subscribed to this topic now and will help you with any malware issues you may have, if you still need any assistance.

As it has been a while since you posted last and changes may have been made to your system please run HijackThis again and post a new log in your next reply along with a brief description of how your computer is running.

Thanks for your reply, I can see and do understand how busy you all are and appreciate all the help you provide for your members. You guys are doing a fantastic job.

My Laptop got so bad in the end that I had to format the HD and reinstall everything new, I just got it working again yesterday.

Before you lock this thread can you please tell me if there are signs of any virus in the HT log I posted in my first post?

Hi,

Nothing obvious stands out from your HijackThis log, that is not to say there wasn't any malware on your computer. Unfortunately modern malware does it's best to avoid detection and we are often required to dig deeper than what HijackThis shows to find it. If it is any consolation reformatting and reinstalling is the safest and often quickest solution to dealing with malware.

You had some good security programs installed going by your HijackThis log so I feel you already know the fundamentals of keeping your computer safe, just be careful of what you click.
