Hi lanejlane,

Welcome to MRU. My name is davis. I will be helping you to fix your malware problems.
If your issues have been resolved or already received help elsewhere, then please let us know. If not, and still need help. Please follow the instructions in the following.
In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer. Please rescan your computer and post a new HJT log and an Uninstall List.

Make an Uninstall List

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button
5. Click on the Save list button
6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default, it's named uninstall_list.txt.
7. Copy and paste the contents in your next reply and a fresh HJT log.

In your next reply, please post back:

1.New HJY log
2.Uninstall list Thanks

Unread postby davis » January 20th, 2009, 12:52 pm

Hi lanejlane,

Step1

Regarding to Malware Removal's P2P Programs Policy, please uninstall the following program before we continue:

  1. Click on Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Locate LimeWire4.12.11 and click on the Change/Remove button to uninstall it.
  3. Close Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel when done.

Step2

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

In your next reply, please post back

1.RSIT log.txt and info.txt. Thanks.

Re: I have a .dll not a valid windows image error.

Hi lanejlane,

Step1

I see you are using Wild Tangent. It is not malware, but is sometimes thought to bring malware along. The WildTangent Web Driver is their technology that allows you to play 3D games over the Internet.
Although it’s not technically considered spyware, it does have built in components to update itself and gather information about the computer system.
Unless you are an extremely avid games player, I recommend you uninstall Wild Tangent.

Viewpoint is considered foistware instead of malware because it is installed without users approval, but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". You may like to read this article about the potential of this Viewpoint software here:
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

FBrowsingAdvisor is an adware application. Once it is installed on your PC, it will display large numbers of popup and pop-under advertisements, based on user preferences and search history. It will also gather and transmit information about your web surfing habits. This program has been known to come bundled with rogue antispyware applications.

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
In Add or Remove Programs, highlight (If found)

FBrowsingAdvisor
Viewpoint Media Player
WildTangent Web Driver

and click on Change/Remove to remove it.

Step2

Please print out and follow these instructions: "How to use SDFix".
  • Disconnect from the Internet and temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any real time protection programs before performing a scan.
  • When done, the SDFix report log will open in notepad and automatically be saved in the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
  • If SDFix is unable to run after rebooting from Safe Mode, run SDFix in either Mode, and type F, then press Enter for it to finish the final stage and produce the report.
  • Please copy and paste the contents of Report.txt in your next reply.
  • Be sure to renable you anti-virus and and other security programs before connecting to the Internet.
-- If the computer has been infected with the VirusAlert! malware warning from the clock and the Start Menu icons or drives are not visible, open the SDFix folder, right-click on either the XP_VirusAlert_Repair.inf or W2K VirusAlert_Repair.inf (depending on your version of Windows) and select Install from the Context menu. Then reboot to apply the changes.

Step3

1.Please run HijackThis! and click "Do a system scan only." Place checks next to the following entries,(if present):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://internetsearchservice.com

Make sure this option is selected:
  • Show hidden files and folders
Click Apply and then click OK

3. Delete files and folders

Use Windows Explorer to find and delete this file(if found):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\service.exe

and delete the file without filepath in the following:

Goto Start Menu > Search > Click All Files and Folders,
scroll down to the Advanced Options which is the last option,
click that and then make sure there is a check next to Search System Folders, Search Hidden Files and Folders & Search Subfolders
Press Search

xlibgfl254.dll

and delete any that are found by right clicking the file in the results pane to the right and choosing delete.

and those folders to delete (if found)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\834668
C:\Program Files\NetProject
C:\Program Files\LimeWire

In your next reply, please post back

1.SDFix Report.
2.RSIT log.txt and info.txt.(Before running RSIT, delete the folder in C:\rsit)

Tell me how things are going now.

Due to lack of response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
