unidentified applications on startup after cleaning.

Unread postby legologic » January 5th, 2009, 11:43 pm

I got a malware infection today I think from a friends usb pen drive. When I got home I started my laptop and I kept getting notifications from AVG about trojans. Not only that but I got error messages about IE trying to access some page and did I want to continue running scripts on this page. I clicked neither yes nor no and x'd out of it. Incidentally I only use firefox and have not used ie in months.

I ran spybot S&D, ad-aware and done a full scan with avg (which was a fun few hours) they all found things but mostly just tracking cookies and mru objects. Spybot found something that it could not delete as it was still in memory so I restarted in safe mode and ran spybot again. I restarted in regular mode and am still getting some strange things on startup. First if I open task manager just after startup, under the applications tab three processes "ie", "DC" & "iexplorer" keep attempting to open. I ended them from the task manger and looked through my processes but I cant find anything bad that I can identify there. I had to google a few of the processes and found them to be from design and engineering programs that I use (CATIA, Solidworks, Adobe programs and some programs from my brother printer).

This is my primary work and play machine and I would really appreciate any help with this. The security of this machine is essential as it contains a number of confidential and client files which are very important to me. I usually back up onto my external regularly but do not want to connect it tonight in case it too becomes infected. below is my HijackThis log and an image of task manager at startup. I'm not sure what the updater process is either (possibly AVG?). I'd simply like to know if they are anything to worry about.

Thank you for any help you can provide.
