HJT logfile- Generic!Artemis?

Unread postby BigSLC » January 3rd, 2009, 9:37 pm

McAfee Stinger found Generic!Artemis. I started downloading a movie torrent last night using UTorrent and today when I got on my machine I had a message that looked like it was from an anti-spyware company. I've heard of viruses using this type of message to mask themselves so before I tried to close the screen I went into Task Mgr and closed my browser then rebooted my machine. Windows took much longer to boot up and in the process it says 'RPCSS is starting' then at some point it will give the path to a Windows System 32 file, either 'wlnotify.dll' or 'ati2evxx.exe'. The first time I rebooted, I noticed that I had 2 new shortcuts that had been added to my desktop that were for porn sites. I deleted the shortcuts and tried a couple different virus scans but at the end of each scan my machine reboots (clever girl). Finally I ran across a forum (McAfee community) that told me to install and run HijackThis and post my log file here. Here it is, thanks guys!!:

Hello BigSLC,

I apologise for the delay, the forum is busy.

Please read our policy about P2P programs, and uninstall all of them from your pc.

If you still need help, post a new HijackThis log after you remove P2P programs.

You chose to come here and ask for help from volunteers who donate their time and energy to removing malware from systems, at no cost to the person being helped.

It is our decision and our right to refuse to work on systems that have P2P programs installed as it's a waste of our time, time that would be better spent working on a system that will not be immediately reinfected as one running P2P filesharing software is sure to be. That is our choice. If you are not happy with our choice, then you can choose to go elsewhere... you're free to do that. What you are not free to do at this site is to be rude to a volunteer who has offered to give their time to help you. Accordingly, you will not be welcome here in the future.

This topic is now closed.
