Conflicting Virtumonde reports

Unread postby brewman84 » December 20th, 2008, 1:17 pm

I'm looking for assistance, SpyBot reports Virtumonde present on my system (also it cannot remove it), Symantec's FixVundo reports none found. SpyBot keeps reporting changes wanting to be made to the registry (besides websites opening up in IE) which I keep denying since I haven't installed anything. Below is a HJT log. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Sorry about the double replies, IE timed out on me without giving a successful acknowledgement, so I didn't realize it had been posted.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware here and save to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the log back into your next reply
    Note:
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Or via the Logs tab when Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is started.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In your next post, please reply with:
  • The Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware log
  • A fresh HijackThis log
  • And also tell me the computer condition now

Hi tan_pang
My laptop has been running fine, I haven't seen any other IE windows opening up I was having problems with opening emails (hotmail) which hasn't been a problem as well, all seems to be right with the world again and for that I thank you and this outstanding organization you work with and that I hope to be a part of. I am looking for recommendations on anti spyware/malware and antivirus solutions do you have any favorites and also is it better to use a browser other then IE?

You can try Firefox or Opera as alternative Internet Browser.
The MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware and avast! that you using is also a very good anti-spyware/anti-virus tools. :)

And you can visit the Malware Removal University for more information.

Anyway, to make sure that your computer is clean, it is better to go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply.

Hi, the Kaspersky scan log tell that you have UltraVNC installed.
Do you recognise and installed this program in your computer?

And do you use other tools (like ComboFix) in the computer before?

UltraVNC was once used but no longer in fact I just deleted that after my last reply to you, I did run ComboFix before I posted on this forum, I first ran it on a test system I have with no ill effects so I tried it on the laptop trying to implement my own fix.
