Hijack this file can't get rid of PrcViewer

Unread postby donna » December 16th, 2008, 7:47 am

On Oct 26, my mastercard was stolen over the internet. I was hit by a "fake alert " right about the time I was paying my card on line. What a problem. I paid 89.00 for virus removal from Mcafee who is my security software, however, I just don't believe my computer is clean.
On 12/4 my mcafee detected "generic.dx"which was quarantined. (2 files which were in C:|mygames.) I deleted the file and emptied my recyle bin. I decided to go to the Mcafee's discussion board for help this time and downloaded Smithfraud.fix, exe and during the time it was running a warning came up not download this, but too late. Now my scans show that I have 2 files with " PrcViewer " I haved tried to remove it to no avail, and Mcafee scans says to ignore it.I would just feel safer if one of you all could take a look at it and I thank you in advance for all your help. . . dj

Hello donna and welcome to the forums.

Please do not run any other programs with out my permission !!
Run all programs in the order posted !!!!!

My name is flashh4 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:

1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)
4. Please note you'll need to have Administrator privileges to perform the fixes. (XP accounts are Administrator by default)
5. Please let me know if you are using a computer with multiple accounts, as this can affect the instructions given.

If you can do those things, everything should go smoothly.

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Note: I am still in training at Malware Removal, however I will be working under the direct supervision of one of our Malware Experts. Any recommendations will first be approved before being given to you. Because of this, there may be a short delay in getting our responses to you, however be assured that we will be working diligently on your problem.

I will be back as soon as possible with a fix !!
In the mean time can you give me an Uninstall list please !!

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  3. Look under System tools.
  4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  5. Click on the Save list... button.
  6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  7. Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

Thanks
Chuck

Re: Hijack this file can't get rid of PrcViewer

Unread postby flashh4 » December 21st, 2008, 10:02 am

Hi donna, Now you say your "mastercard was stolen over the internet". If this is true then i cannot guarantee you will be safe till we have run some scans and programs to make sure you are safe.
I would recommend you change all passwords for banking, etc. Just to be on the safe side. So write the new ones down somewhere so you will not forget them.

Now lets see what we find.

Please download and run the following !

RSIT

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<< will be maximized) and info.txt (<< will be minimized)

Please post the 2 rsit logs. No need to post a HJT log RSIT makes one.

Thanks
Chuck

Chuck,
I was replying to this earlier, and I was interupted. At that time I had two Files when I canceled out. Now I can only get the log file to run. Tell me what I am doing wrong. I Can't even find the info file in my history. Till then I 'll keep looking
Edit:

12/23/08 Tried to run again. Still just one file.

Re: Hijack this file can't get rid of PrcViewer

Unread postby flashh4 » December 26th, 2008, 10:16 am

Hello donna, Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of its own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from a Zip file or from Temporary folders because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to your 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder

NEXT

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following: ( if present ).

* SmartShopper

NEXT

:Remove bad HijackThis entries:
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

      O9 - Extra button: SmartShopper - Compare product prices - {3CC3D8FE-F0E0-4dd1-A69A-8C56BCC7BEBF} - C:\Program Files\SmartShopper\Bin\2.0.26\SmrtShpr.dll
      O9 - Extra button: SmartShopper - Compare travel rates - {3CC3D8FE-F0E0-4dd1-A69A-8C56BCC7BEC0} - C:\Program Files\SmartShopper\Bin\2.0.26\SmrtShpr.dll
O24 - Desktop Component AutorunsDisabled: (no name) - (no file)

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.

NEXT

Enable show hidden files and folders:

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK

You can rehide these after the fix !

NEXT

Useing Windows Explorer by right-clicking the Start button and left clicking Explore navigate to and find the following files: if found, delete the following folders: (if present):

C:\Program Files\SmartShopper

Exit Explorer

Post a new HJT log

Thanks

Chuck,

Sorry for that inconvenience. As I mentioned before, when I tried to delete the rest of the files on the smart shopper the acess was denied. I did not know how to go about this.

Thank you,

donna

Re: Hijack this file can't get rid of PrcViewer

Unread postby flashh4 » December 27th, 2008, 9:08 pm

Hi donna, lets try this program.

  1. Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to a convenient location.
  2. Double click on mbam-setup.exe to install it.
  3. Before clicking the Finish button, make sure that these 2 boxes are checked (ticked):
      Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now check for updates. If your firewall prompts, please allow it. If you can't update it, select the Update tab. Under Update Mirror, select one of the websites and click on Check for Updates.
  5. Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform full scan, then click on Scan.
  6. Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
  7. When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
  8. Checked (ticked) all items and click on Remove Selected.
  9. After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.

Post these:
1. Malwarebytes
2. New HJT log

Thanks
Chuck

Hi donna, ok lets try this.

  1. Please download OTMoveIt3.exe from Geeks to Go and save it to your desktop.
  2. Double click on OTMoveIt3.exe to run it.
  3. Please copy and paste the following in the Code box into OTMoveIt3 (1).

Warning: Do not type it out to prevent any typo errors and damaging your machine.

    Code: Select all
    :Files
    C:\Program Files\SmartShopper

    :commands
    [EmptyTemp]
    [reboot]

Please refer to this image to use OTMoveIt3.

    Image

  4. Click on MoveIt! (2)
  5. Click Exit (3) when done.

NEXT

Backup the Registry

  • Download ERUNT
  • Save it to your desktop. Right click on the downloaded file(erunt.zip) and click Extract.Follow the prompts to extract the file.
  • Now click on the folder "erunt" and find and double click on the file called Erunt.exe
  • Click OK. Then Click OK again.
  • Click save and then go to File > Exit.
This is so the registry can be restored to this point if we need it. It may take a minute. Just let it run until it's done.

NEXT

Copy/paste the following text into a new Notepad document. (You must use Notepad, NOT Wordpad). Make sure that you have NO blank lines at the beginning of the document before REGEDIT4, and ONE blank line at the end of the document as shown in the quoted text:
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{3CC3D8FE-F0E0-4dd1-A69A-8C56BCC7BEBF}]

Save it to your desktop as Fixme.reg. Save it as follows...
File Type: "All Files" (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name: Fixme.reg

Locate Fixme.reg on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the merged successfully prompt.

Post a new HJT log

Thanks
Chuck
