"Shall I turn my system restore back on then reboot?"

Yes please unless it is not already on.

After that:

We will begin with ComboFix.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Image

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Empty these folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\backups
C:\Qoobox\Quarantine

Empty Recycle Bin.

Still problems?

Hi shaba. A couple of things. After the initial fix, my cd and dvd drives had disappeared. I got them to finally show up in my computer, but they still won't play anything. There are also problems with my outlook addins, that i was trying to fix by reinstalling the program. Hence, the problem with the cd drives. Also, my sound is not working and i can't figure out how to get it back. I emptied out all of the folders you requested, but the problems are still there. In addition to that, my norton now shows an error under "email scanning" now. Please advise. :(

For outlook problems, I think that some windows forum might be best place to help you.

As for other issues, are there any exclamation marks in device manager concerning cd/dvd drive or sound devices (start - run - devmgmt.msc - ok)?

You might want to try to remove sound device and cd/dvd drive from device manager and reboot.

It should reinstall drivers automatically or ask or them after next boot.

Due to lack of response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
