I am plauged with globaladsolution. This thing even comes over my speakers with ads. Can you just explain what goes on here? I started looking for help and these massive log's everyone was posting intimidated me. But from what I can tell, I have to run hijackthis and post the log unwordwrapped and then with that you will be able to help me fix it? If this is true you people have secured a top seat in heaven. I am just really, really paranoid after this. I just, and im sorry to b difficult, want to see if someone will respond to this, tell me a little about the process in a wat i can understand, before i start posting logs of scans on my computer. PLEASE?? I ran this superantispyware thing and it found a ton of stuff, but it didn't fix this problem. im sorry 2 b difficult, please take pity and help me. It's not even my computer, it is my dads and I messed it up last time when I visited being greedy and running programs i new darn well i shouldn't even look at in my quest to get warcraft II back. ok i know tmi. please, please help.

Hello gryphin and welcome to the forums. A lot of people are sometimes overwhelm by the fixes but be sure you are not alone.
We will guide you threw the cleaning process !

Please do not run any other programs with out my permission !!
Run all programs in the order posted !!!!!

My name is flashh4 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:

1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)
4. Please note you'll need to have Administrator privileges to perform the fixes. (XP accounts are Administrator by default)
5. Please let me know if you are using a computer with multiple accounts, as this can affect the instructions given.

If you can do those things, everything should go smoothly.

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Note: I am still in training at Malware Removal, however I will be working under the direct supervision of one of our Malware Experts. Any recommendations will first be approved before being given to you. Because of this, there may be a short delay in getting our responses to you, however be assured that we will be working diligently on your problem.

I will be back as soon as possible to get you started !!

Thanks
Chuck

Hi gryphin, ok now lets get started with the cleanup !

First i need you to post a HJT log and an Uninstall list !!

Since you have already downloaded HJT:
Open HJT:
[*]Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
[*]Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
[*]Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
[*]DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
[*]DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

NEXT

I need to see an Uninstall List:

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  3. Look under System tools.
  4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  5. Click on the Save list... button.
  6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  7. Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

Post these in your next reply:
1. HJT log/report
2. Uninstall List

Thanks
Chuck

OK, thanks for be willing to help me flashh4. Just for my peace of mind can u tell me this is not an elaborate con to steal my identity and sell me into slavery??
When you say admin access needed, I am on XP and I do have multiple accounts(profiles). The only time I see the actual administrator profile is when I log on in safe mode. It is one of the profile's i can select.
Here are the logs.
Thanks again.

Hi gryphin, first let me set your mind at ease !

Just for my peace of mind can u tell me this is not an elaborate con to steal my identity and sell me into slavery??

If your statement above was thinking that we (Malware Removal) is trying to con you then.
Let me assure you that we are neither a hoax nor a con at what we do here, and thats removeing
Viruses, Trojans, and helping clean computers of malware !!!

When you say admin access needed, I am on XP and I do have multiple accounts(profiles).
The only time I see the actual administrator profile is when I log on in safe mode.

I did not want you to work from the Administrator account just from an account that has administrative privileges.

-----------------------

I must warn you that if you downloaded World of Warcraft from a P2P site it is probably infected,
so if you did get it from there it would be best to delete it !
So tell me about World of Warcraft, and any info you have on where you got it ????

===================

First thing you must do !!!

Remove P2P programs - MalWare Removal has a policy on P2P programs installed:

Use of P2P (Person to Person) file sharing programs

We have noticed that most people seeking help from us are coming with infections contracted from the use of P2P programs.

Because of this, we felt we needed to change our policy on the use of P2P file sharing programs.
  • If your helper detects the presence of such programs on your computer he/she will ask you to remove them. We will withdraw our help should you not agree to their removal.
  • If we clean your computer of infection, and you return to us a short time later with an infection contracted by the use of P2P programmes, we will refuse our help.

We do not ask you to do this without reason.

P2P programs form a direct conduit onto your computer, their security measures are easily circumvented, and Malware writers are increasingly exploiting them to spread their wares onto your computer. Further to that, if your P2P programme is not configured correctly you may be sharing more files than you realise. There have been cases where people's Passwords, Address Books and other personal, private, and financial details have been exposed to the file sharing network by a badly configured programme.

This article from InfoWorld illustrates perfectly the dangers of a poorly configured P2P program.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/09/06/Seattle-man-arrested-for-p-to-p-ID-theft_1.html

Many of the programs come bundled with other unwanted programs, but even the ones free of any bundled software are not safe to use.

When you use them you are downloading software from an unknown source directly onto your computer, bypassing your Firewall and Anti-Virus software. Hardly surprising then that many of these Downloads are being targeted to carry infections.

We see no purpose in cleaning your machine if you use P2P programs, as it is pretty much certain that if you continue to use them then you will get infected again.

You have the following P2P program(s) installed:
µTorrent
LimeWire 4.9.37

This is how you uninstall it/them:

  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present):

    µTorrent
    LimeWire 4.9.37

Note: Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Besides the ones i have mentioned, ALL P2P programs you have installed must be removed before i can help you !!!!

Remember to remove World of Warcraft if you downloaded it from a P2P site !! Use the instructions above to remove it !

If you removed these above then post a New HJT log and Uninstall List !

Thanks
Chuck

Hey Chuck,
Read your reply. Thanks for easing my mind.

As I had said before that was my dad's computer that i got infected. I am on a friend's laptop right now so I can't post any logs.

The WoW that I have on my dad's puter is just the demo I dl'd from the warcraft/blizzard site. The warcraft I was referring to that I downloaded off the p2p client was warcraft II. Well, warcraft II is what i was Trying to DL. The file I dl'd never ran warcraft II in any playable way so I already deleted that. And I am pretty sure that is where the main amount, if not all, of the malware came from. I knew I shouldn't have downloaded or run it, but I really really wanted warcraft II back. But yeah, got it off p2p and right after that is when the trouble began.

Anyway, I will be at my parents house after I get off work tmrw 11/28. I will uninstall the p2p progz I have and then repost the logs u said to post. I will do that as close to 11:00pm EST as possible. Thanks again for your willingness to help. I would have no hope of getting this malware gone if you weren't helping me. Thanks.

-gryphin

p.s. How do I know if I am working from a profile that has admin priviledges?

Hi gryphin, i need to warn you that this computer should be kept off the internet until we have it clean, or the infections on it will just bring in more by the Malware thats already installed.

.................

To find out if you have Admin. privileges follow these instructions.
Check For Admin privileges as follows:

  • Right click on the Start button.
  • In the menu that appears if the below is not present:
    Open All Users
    Explore All Users
  • Then you do not have Admin privileges.

Thanks

Hi gryphin, you must of had admin priveleges to download the stuff that caused these infections.
Anyway to see if you have admin proveleges Click > Start >Control Panel > double-click User Accouts > then see which accounts say "Computer administrator".

You will need to use one of the Accounts that say Administrator Priveleges or i can not help you !
You will need to have regular access to this computer so we can proceed promptly with my instructions and report back immediately when finished.

In response to staying off the Internet, it is ok to use it long enough to come here for the instructions to
clean your computer or post your logs back to me, but then disconnect from the Internet immediately. No surfing please.

Please post the logs i asked for previously, thanks.
New HJT log and Uninstall List

Thanks

Unread postby flashh4 » December 1st, 2008, 9:39 pm

Hi gryphin, lets get started with the clean up.

  1. Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to a convenient location.
  2. Double click on mbam-setup.exe to install it.
  3. Before clicking the Finish button, make sure that these 2 boxes are checked (ticked):
      Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now check for updates. If your firewall prompts, please allow it. If you can't update it, select the Update tab. Under Update Mirror, select one of the websites and click on Check for Updates.
  5. Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform full scan, then click on Scan.
  6. Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
  7. When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
  8. Checked (ticked) all items and click on Remove Selected.
  9. After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:
A word of warning: Please do not run ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this topic if you need help to disable your protection programs.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a HijackThis log so we can continue cleaning the system.
