Problem caused by previous removal?

Unread postby dk2rb » November 20th, 2008, 10:24 pm

Hi all,

I cleaned my computer with the help of peku006 just a week or two ago. (the forum is here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=36243&st=0&sk=t&sd=a )

Since then (probably immediatley following, as I don't use them that much), my CD drives have vanished from My Computer and refuse to recognize discs. I know this is probably a hardware issue, but I remember seeing some entries related to my disk drives in some of the registry scans I did back when I was removing the malware.

So if somebody could look over the logs from the previous problem and tell me if maybe something went wrong somewhere or if any advice could be offered as to what to do next?

If not, I appreciate everything you've already done and I'll just head over to a hardware forum...

Thanks!

EDIT: I looked over the logs myself and he DID have me running some fixreg.bat stuff with registry entries related to my disk drives in there. So i think this may be the problem.....

Hi dk2rb

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as Options.txt on your Desktop.
Code: Select all
RegSearch Options File

[Search]
$sys$
ECDDiskProducer
SonyBMG
crater
aries
qwap

[Exclude]

[Options]
Filter=KVDLUI

Download Registry Search and extract it. Doubleclick the icon to run and click on "Import...". Select the file you created above. Click "OK" and Registry Search will search the Registry and report what it finds. Post that here.

Just an update,

iTunes popped up a dialog box telling me that "The registry entries used by iTunes to import and burn CDs and DVDs are no longer present." blah blah blah, this could be because you installed other CD burning software (i have not). "Please reinstall iTunes."

I'll try reinstalling iTunes, and see if that does anything...

EDIT: This helped none.

Hi

1- backup registry

Go to Start > Run
Type regedit and click OK.

  • On the leftside, click to highlight My Computer at the top.
  • Go up to "File > Export"
    • Make sure in that window there is a tick next to "All" under Export Branch.
    • Leave the "Save As Type" as "Registration Files".
    • Under "Filename" put backup
  • Choose to save it to C:\ or in somewhere else safe location so that you will remember where you put it (don't put it on the Desktop!)
  • Click Save and then go to File > Exit.

2 - Download and run RegDACL

Download RegDACL, and extract it to C: root (C:\).

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as FixReg.bat and all file types. Be sure to save it in the same folder as the one where you extracted RegDACL.
Code: Select all
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\IDE\CdRomJLMS_DVD-ROM_XJ-HD166___________________DD05____\5&3a22a7d4&0&0.0.0" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\IDE\CdRomTEAC_DVD+RW_DV-W58E_____________________D.0C____\5&3a22a7d4&0&0.1.0" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\PCIIDE\IDEChannel\4&3113adfa&0&1" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_$SYS$DRMSERVER" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_$SYS$DRMSERVER\0000" /GGE:F

RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_$SYS$LIM\0000" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_$SYS$OCT" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_$SYS$OCT\0000" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE\CdRomJLMS_DVD-ROM_XJ-HD166___________________DD05____\5&3a22a7d4&0&0.0.0" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE\CdRomTEAC_DVD+RW_DV-W58E_____________________D.0C____\5&3a22a7d4&0&0.1.0" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCIIDE\IDEChannel\4&3113adfa&0&1" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_$SYS$DRMSERVER" /GGE:F
RegDACL "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_$SYS$DRMSERVER\0000" /GGE:F

RegDACL"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_$SYS$OCT\0000" /GGE:F

Locate FixReg.bat in that folder and double-click on it.

Open Notepad and copy the contents of the following box to a new file.

Save it as fix.reg (save type: "All files" (*.*)) to your desktop.

It should look like this -> Image

Go to Desktop, double-click fix.reg and merge the infomation with the registry.

(You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".)

and post back if it helped.

Initial Response: When I run Fix.reg, it gives me this error: "Cannot import F:\Documents and Settings\Mom and Dad\Desktop\Fix.reg: Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes.

I'll restart and see if anything is better...

Post-Restart: When I restarted the computer, I got an error message saying that something went wrong with Tea Timer. It read: "Access violation at address 004BA7C5 in module 'TeaTimer.exe'. Read of address 00000010"

Didn't know if that was of any interest....

Anyways, still no luck with the cd drives...

Hi dk2rb

Ok,you have teatimer........

Disable Spybot Teatimer temporarily

  1. Right click the Spybot Icon in the system tray near the clock (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol).
  2. Click once on Resident Protection, then right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  3. Go to Start > All Programs > Spybot - Search & Destroy > Spybot Search & Destroy.
  4. Click on Mode > Advanced Mode. When it prompts you, click Yes.
  5. On the left hand side, click on Tools.
  6. Check (tick) this box if it is not yet ticked: Resident.
  7. You will notice that Resident is now added under Tools. Click on Resident.
  8. Uncheck (untick) this box: Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active.
  9. Exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

Download ResetTeaTimer.bat to the Desktop
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

Restart your computer for the changes to take effect

Go to Desktop, double-click fix.reg and merge the infomation with the registry.

(You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".)

and post back if it helped.

Hi dk2rb

let’s try safe mode......

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

Locate FixReg.bat in that folder and double-click on it.

double-click fix.reg and merge the infomation with the registry.

(You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".)

boot into Normal mode

and post back if it helped.

Ran both in safe mode.

I actually saw what was going on in FixReg.bat. Every single key it tried to access, it was unable to find/open.

Got the same error message in Fix.reg

Also, when i rebooted into normal mode, I got an "Windows- No Disk" error saying "Exception Processing Message C0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c". I know this is probably unrelated, as i have seen it before. But just thought I'd mention it...

Thanks for all your efforts so far!

Hi dk2rb

Open Notepad.
Copy the text from the box to an empty file.
Save it as export.bat to your desktop.
Choose save as all types
Code: Select all
regedit /e c:\look.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom"

Close Notepad.

Locate Export.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it It will create a file called look.txt in C:\
Copy the entire text and past it to your reply here in this topic.

Hi dk2rb

Please check for "warnings" in your Device Manager
If you find yellow or red warnings, then right click on the driver item and Select - Remove
Then reboot and allow Windows to "find new hardware" and "install software for new hardware

and post back if it helped.
