FakeAlert/TDSS trojan found & mostly removed, need clearing

Unread postby DavCrav » October 27th, 2008, 12:08 pm

Hello,

I got infected by a variant of FakeAlert and TDSS (I don't know how, but there you go). I ran MBAM and it got the TDSS, and although the files seem to be gone, the registry entries appear to remain. I also managed to get rid of the karna.dat, brastk.exe, and a bad version of beep.sys -- from FakeAlert -- as well as some other files related to it. These files are no longer on the system, although in the log below they are referenced at O4 and O20. The other things that I recognize seem to be OK.

I ran a scan with SDFix, and it found the TDSS registry entries in the final check section after the restart, but seemed uninterested in them.

Anyway, here is the logfile.

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Re: FakeAlert/TDSS trojan found & mostly removed, need clearing

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

uTorrent

I'd like you to read the MRU policy for P2P Programs.

Please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

Uninstall also this:

ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker

Please run a new uninstall list scan when finished and post the log back here.

Due to Lack of Response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
