MP3's were trojans ... did I successfully get rid of them?

Unread postby Licorice » October 5th, 2008, 12:06 pm

Hi ... I downloaded a few MP3's thru Limewire, and they didn't "Launch" (play) properly within Limewire as they usually do. I brought them into WinAmp and tried to play them, with no success. At no time did a window pop up to ask me to download or install anything. This morning, I noticed AVG (8.0 free version) caught 3 trojans, named as the 3 suspicious MP3 files. AVG says it quarantined them, but I just want to be sure. My HiJackThis and Kapersky logs follow ... thanks for any assistance!

Re: MP3's were trojans ... did I successfully get rid of them?

Hi Licorice

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Re: MP3's were trojans ... did I successfully get rid of them?

Unread postby Shaba » October 6th, 2008, 5:25 am

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

LimeWire PRO 4.16.2

I'd like you to read the MRU policy for P2P Programs.

Please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

After that:

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
