Unable to poll http servers.

Unread postby cwood911 » September 14th, 2008, 11:30 am

I can no longer receive emails from my Hotmail Account using Outlook Express. I receive the message:Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server..... when trying to login. No problem using OE and the account with outher computers. One change made to my system recently was uograding to IE7. I have found many issues with IE7 and OE and hotmail no longer working searching the net and have tried all the soultions without any change. One topic area of solutions involvres checking for malware that could be a problem with Hotmail and the increased security in IE7. I have tried SpyBot and AdWare but no change. If I have a Malware issue, I obviously need more help. Please let me know if you can see a problem from the hijackthis log. Thank you in advance for any time and effort and I appreciate any suggestions.

Hi! :hello2: and welcome to the Malware Removal forums.
My name is John Brouwer - if it helps, you can call me John for short. I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

These rules are good for you to know:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • If you don't reply within five days after my last instructions this topic will be closed. If you will not be able to reply within five days please tell me so the topic will not be closed.

These rules are to make my voluntary work more comfortable:
  • Please be patient. The work I do is voluntary and I also have a private life (school, work, friends and hobbies).
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Also, don't post logs as attachments. Other helpers like to view the logs as well and opening a lot of attachments is irritating. It can also contain malware.

Finally, please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Open The Misc Tool Section button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop and post the contents in a reply to this topic. Also post a fresh HijackThis log and tell me if your initial problem is still existing.

Greets, John.

Hi John,

Thank you for your time and effort in taking on my request. I understand that you are volunteering your time and will be very patient. I am always amazed at how much qualtity time is given away on the Net - something that is not talked about enough.

I have read your first response and appreciate the clear "ground rules". I have done what you requested and verified that the problem still exist.

Thanks You again!

Unfortunately the user rules state that we are not allowed to clean business computer:
http://www.malwareremoval.com/rules.php
In General, we do not help in cleaning business or corporate computers. There may be restrictions and modifications installed on such machines that could be damaged or altered by the actions we take to remove Malware. There may also be legal issues regarding any loss of business data that we do not wish to deal with.

You'd better contact the IT department of the company.

What I can tell you is that the log looks clean. Unless something is really hiding itself I do not think malware is causing your problem.

Please let me know when you have read this.

John, Sorry I didn't pay attention to the rules and may have abused the system. I manage my own computer at work and don't look at it like a "business" PC. However, the rule does make sense and apprciate the level of integrity of thr group. I do thank you for your comment about the system looking clean. That is an important piece of information that will help. Thank you for your time. Please feel free to close this post.
