Can't remove TROJ_VUNDO.CWY

Unread postby JFour » August 23rd, 2008, 5:08 pm

Hi,

I cannot delete an infected file, and Trend Micro is reporting a real time discovery of that file about every second.

Notes:
* Below is my Hijack This! log.

* I lost internet access from the infected machine after reboot today.

* I have two machines, Trend Micro notified me last night on each that both were infected, one with TROJ_VUNDO.CWY and the other with TROJ_AGENT.ANMX.

This help request is to try to tackle the VUNDO-infected machine first.

* File sharing was on between the two machines, but I've turned it off.

* I already had System Restore turned off on the VUNDO-infected machine before infection, and am leaving it off until otherwise instructed.

* Trend Micro is currently reporting:
- the infected file C:\\WINDOWS\System32\__c00926DB.dat
- Virus Name: TROJ_VUNDO.CWY
- "OfficeScan detected a security risk but is unable to delete the file."

* I found __c00926DB.dat but can't delete the file because it's in use by other programs. Safe Mode doesn't let me manually delete it either.

* Windows Defender also alerted me to the issue and gave me the option to fix the problem and remove the file. I clicked Remove File but the file still remains.

Do you think my loss of internet contection is related to this issue?

I apologize for the delay. If you are still having a problem, then please do the following:

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized), along with a description of your remaining problems.

When posting your logs please post them directly into the reply. Do not attach them.

Thank you for your patience.

Thanks for the reply. Based on advice given to another user on this forum with a vundo issue, I installed MalwareBytles Anti-Malware, and that fixed things up nicely.

Cheers.
