Help deleting a redirect virus

Unread postby kanakaboyus » August 17th, 2008, 12:49 pm

I got a redirect virus a few days ago and can't remove it. I uninstalled IE7, but I can't re-install it yet as the Microsoft download service is not available at this time. The virus is still present when I use IE6. Here's my Hijackthis logfile, please help! Thank you

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

The Kapersky website says that I need to have Java version 1.5 or later to run their program. I checked my system and I have Java version 6 update 7. I reloaded Java version 6 update 7 and then ran Kapersky again. It still tells me that it cannot run unless I have Java version 1.5 or later, and the "accept" button is not available.

Yes, I have used Opera but I have the same redirect problem with it. Should I abandon IE and Opera and use Firefox?

Or did you mean to try using another browser to access Kapersky?

Re: Help deleting a redirect virus

Unread postby kanakaboyus » August 23rd, 2008, 11:34 pm

My computer seem to be working like it should again. I'm not getting any false redirects when I do searches in Yahoo and google. I've also regained normal use of my keyboard volume controls and a few other things that were acting strangely. Was the "kbdci.exe" file in my systems32 directory the culprit? There's another file named kbd.exe in that directory. Is it related to the kbdci.exe file that was deleted? Thanks for your help!
