Hi

The entry causing the wextract_cleanup error may be due to Teatimer so let's see if the following clears up the problem.

1 - Disable Spybot's TeaTimer
SpyBot is a great program but it will interfere with our fixes so it is important that we disable it.
This is a two step process.
First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have the new version 1.5, click once on Resident Protection, then right-click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colourless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For both versions :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go to the bottom of the vertical panel on the left, click Tools
  • Then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labelled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

2 - Run HijackThis Scan and Fix
Start HijackThis and click Do a system scan only
Tick the following entry, if present:
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [wextract_cleanup0] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\advpack.dll,DelNodeRunDLL32 "C:\DOCUME~1\HEMA\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP002.TMP\"

Close all windows except HijackThis
Click Fix Checked in HijackThis.

3 - Clean Up Temporary Files
Download CCleaner Slim from >here< and save it to your Desktop.
When the file has been saved, go to your Desktop and double-click on ccsetupxxx_slim.exe
Follow the prompts to install the program.
Complete the installation then:
  • Make sure that ALL browser windows are closed
  • Double-click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Cookies.
    • Under Cookies to Delete, highlight any cookies you would like to retain permanently
    • Click the right arrow > to move them to the Cookies to Keep window.
  • Go into Options > Advanced deselect/uncheck 'Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours'
  • Click Cleaner on the left then Run Cleaner on the right to run the program.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the 'Registry' feature unless you are very familiar with the registry.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.
CCleaner will remove everything from the temp/temporary folders but please note that it will not make back ups!

4 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please reboot and provide:
  1. a new HijackThis log and
  2. a description of any problems with the computer

Thanks
Vino

Your log shows that Teatimer is set to run at start up. It must be disabled. Did you have a problem with step 1 of my instructions?

Any reason you think the computer may have one?

Your log looks clean, though I don't know what you've disabled with Autoruns, but let's do the following:

Leave Teatimer disabled!

1 - Update Java
You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of perceived vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system.
  • Download the latest version of Java by clicking >here<.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications." - usually fourth in the list.
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Select 'Windows' in the Platform drop-down.
  • Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove ALL older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove ALL Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Using Windows Explorer, delete the C:\Program Files\Java folder.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe to install the latest version of Java.

2 - Kaspersky Online Scan
With the exception of Internet Explorer, which must be used for this scan, keep ALL programs closed
Please do an online scan with >Kaspersky Online Scanner<. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the licence accepted, reset to 100%.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
    o Scan Options:
    + Scan Archives
    + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Please do not use your computer while the scan is running. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Click the Save Report As... button (see red arrow below)

    Image
  • In the Save as... prompt, select Desktop
  • In the File name box, name the file KasScan-ddmmyy (or similar)
  • In the Save as type prompt, select Text file (see below)

    Image
  • Copy and paste the report in your next post.
Note: It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so there are no conflicts and to speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once scan is finished remember to re-enable resident antivirus protection along with whatever antispyware application you use.

3 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please reboot and provide:
  1. the Kaspersky Scan report
  2. a new HijackThis log and
  3. a note of any problems

Thanks
Vino

Well, as you can see, SwiftSwitch comes bundled with EShopper "your gateway to online shopping"! It may be possible to install SwiftSwitch without EShopper (if you check the small print while installing) or it may not be. Nothing else shows up in your log though I have to note that without seeing the full Kaspersky scan, I can't be sure there isn't anything else.

Again, your log appears clean but you haven't posted the full Kaspersky results. If you are happy that the scan is clean and you haven't spotted any other strange activity, then you appear to be 'good to go'.

Any other problems or questions?

In the partially completed scan, the only entry with EShoper is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SwiftSwitch\2.48_06.41.08_swiftswitch(update).exe so I would recommend deleting that file.

1 - Delete suspect file
Using Windows Explorer, browse for the following files/folders and delete as instructed

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SwiftSwitch\2.48_06.41.08_swiftswitch(update).exe <=== Delete this file only

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

Yes, now we know your log appears to be clean, Teatimer can be re-enabled.

Your log now appears to be clean. Congratulations!

1 - Protection Programs
Don't forget to re-enable Teatimer. ;)

2 - General Security and Computer Health
Below are some steps to follow in order to dramatically lower the chances of reinfection
You may have already implemented some of the steps below, however you should follow any steps that you have not already implemented.
  1. Make sure that you keep your antivirus updated
New viruses come out every minute, so it is essential that you have the latest signatures for your antivirus program to provide you with the best possible protection from malicious software. Good antivirus programs will update themselves as least daily.
Note: You should only have one antivirus installed at a time. Having more than one antivirus program installed at once is likely to cause conflicts and may well decrease your overall protection as well as impairing the performance of your PC.
  2. Install and use a firewall with outbound protection
The Windows firewall only monitors incoming traffic, NOT outgoing. Using a software firewall in its default configuration to replace the Windows firewall greatly reduces the risk of your computer being hacked. Make sure your firewall is always enabled while your computer is connected to the internet.
Note: You should only have one firewall installed at a time. Having more than one firewall installed at once is likely to cause conflicts and may well decrease your overall protection as well as seriously impairing the performance of your PC.
  3. Security Updates for Windows, Internet Explorer & Microsoft Office
Whenever a security problem in its software is found, Microsoft will usually create a patch so that after the patch is installed, attackers can't use the vulnerability to install malicious software on your PC. Keeping up with these patches will help to prevent malicious software being installed on your PC.
Ensure you are registered for Windows updates via Start > right-click on My Computer > Properties > Automatic Updates tab or visit the >Microsoft Update site< on a regular basis.
Note: The update process uses ActiveX, so you will need to use Internet Explorer and allow the ActiveX control to install.
  4. Update Non-Microsoft Programs
Microsoft isn't the only company whose products can contain security vulnerabilities. To check whether other programs running on your PC are in need of an update, you can use the >Secunia Software Inspector< - I suggest that you run it at least once a month
  5. Make Internet Explorer More Secure
    Click Start > Run > type inetcpl.cpl > OK
    Click on the Security tab
Click Reset all zones to default level
Make sure the Internet Zone is selected and click Custom level
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
Further information for IE7 can be found >here<

Next, if they're not already present, I would recommend the download and installation of some or all of the following programs, and the updating of them on a regular basis:
  6. Anti-Spyware
Anti-Spyware is NOT the same thing as antivirus. Different anti-spyware programs detect different things so having more than one program is OK however you should only have ONE program running and use others 'on demand'. Having more than one running *may* cause conflicts but will certainly slow the computer down.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: >Information< and is available from >here<
Spybot Search & Destroy: >Information< and is available from >here<
a-squared Free: >Information< and is available from >here<
Note: If you have a dialup internet connection, you may also like to install >a-squared Anti-Dialer< which provides some real time protection against premium rate dialers.
  7. Prevention
These programs are designed to help stop malware getting on to your computer. Each does a different job so having more than one is OK.
WinPatrol: As a robust security monitor, WinPatrol will alert you to hijackings, malware attacks and critical changes made to your computer without your permission. WinPatrol takes snapshot of your critical system resources and alerts you to any changes that may occur without your knowledge. >Information<, >features<, and >download<
Hosts File: For added protection you may also like to add a host file. A simple explanation of what a Hosts file does is >here< and for more information regarding host files read >here<
SpywareBlaster: SpywareBlaster sets killbits in the registry to prevent known malicious ActiveX controls from installing on your computer. If you don't know what ActiveX controls are, see >here< and you can download SpywareBlaster from >here<
  8. Cleaning Temporary Internet Files and Tracking Cookies
Temporary Internet Files are mainly the files that are stored on your computer when you open a web page. If the web site you visit is of a dubious nature or has been hacked, the files can be an entry point for malware. It is a good idea to empty the Temporary Internet Files folder on a regular basis.

Tracking Cookies are files that web sites use to monitor which sites you visit, when, and how often. Some anti-spyware scanners pick up these tracking cookies and flag them as unwanted.
CAUTION:- If you delete all your cookies, you will lose any autologin information for web sites that you visit, and will need to re-enter your passwords for those sites.

Both temporary internet files and tracking cookies can be cleaned manually but a quicker option is to use a program:
    >ATF Cleaner< Free and very simple to use.
    >CCleaner< Free and very flexible, you can choose which cookies to keep.
  9. It is absolutely essential to keep all of your security programs up to date.

I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.

Safe Computing

Ah, I misunderstood and thought that had disappeared.

OK, do the following:

Turn off Teatimer; fix the HijackThis entry; reset Teatimer; re-boot.

Click Fix Checked in HijackThis and close HijackThis

3 - Reset Teatimer
  • Right-click >here< and select "Save as" and save it without changing the name to your desktop
  • Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
  • Open Spybot S&D
    • Click Mode > check Advanced Mode
    • Go to the left Panel and click Tools then, also in left panel, click Resident (OK any firewall prompts)
    • Check the box labelled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts
    • Use File > Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect
  • You can now delete ResetTeaTimer.bat

Has that solved the problem?
