Well, I find Microsoft aggravating as hell. As far as I can tell, I already had SP3 from automatic updates, but I have gone round and round trying to reinstall it in case I didn't have it. I looked through their documentation to find things it had new that I could see if I had. I did download the latest security update and some net something, but couldn't get it to do anything else.

So I am assuming I already have it. And I'll just wait until I get something called an update for SP3 and then I'll know for sure if that downloads. Anyway, I had no trouble disabling and reenabling everything, so I think I can handle whatever comes by myself from now on.

Re: Need help to clean up after effects of a trojan

Hello Yvette,

Your HijackThis log is fine!

No you do not have SP3 yet.
Maybe you miss some updates.

Platform: Windows XP SP2 << Indication in your HijackThis log.

Having automatic updates from Microsoft could help, if you don't want to go mannually each time to check if any new ones.

But downloading the whole SP3 packages, will give you the missing ones.
SP3 packages includes a lot of SP2 updates, plus some more.

I had no trouble disabling and reenabling everything, so I think I can handle whatever comes by myself from now on.

You've learned well, how to enable-disable your protection programs, so after all except of getting your pc clean, you've learned some pretty helpfull stuff about handling your pc, and being more secure.

So thank you one last time for all you've done! I feel safe and secure now and I appreciate all your patience with me.

Please go ahead and archive me so that you can concentrate on other people. I just hope that anyone who gets you to assist them realizes what a gem they have.

You are welcome, thanks for your kind words.

It was a pleasure working with you :)
