Major problem with new computer

Unread postby julas64 » July 19th, 2008, 8:34 am

Please help. My son has bought a new gaming computer from cube247 and has only had it 4 days. We installed McAfee security, a wireless adaptor, printer. Downloaded limewire, a game demo, Crysis off the original site and transferred files from his old computer(these were not infected, we had not prob for over 4 years on his old pc). In the lower right of the screen a red shield icon, the same as windows security, was showing since purchase. Just after connecting to the internet my son started getting a pop up from this icon with the following warning.
Crytical system warning. Your system is probably infected with the latest version of spyware, Cyberlog X. Type: spyware Risk: High Affected systems: XP, 2000 etc.
Each time the pop up appeared he clicked cancel but it keeps reappearing and more frequently as time goes on. In the last 24 hours his desk top keeps getting rearranged, his homepage keeps getting changed to nonsense, we cannot access any websites to download spyware removal tools, and even tho i have saved Hijack This (recommended) onto a flash drive, his computer will not even install it. Windows firewall and protection is on, but updates will not stay on or work. Basically he has a brand new computer that is now completely useless. I cant understand how this has happened, we have had 2 computers between us over the past 4 years and have never had a problem because we are carefull. Im worried about this icon that was already installed on the computer, i believe this has caused the problem. I cannot contact Cube247 until next week about it and not sure whether they will repair it.

Hope you can help me.

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy.
Unfortunately there are far more people needing help than there are helpers.

Please Note, your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use.
Be assured, any links I give are safe

Have you tried System restore to get back to the point before you had this trouble ?

Thankyou for replying. Since posting my query i have managed to sort the problem. I kept trying to download different spyware removal programs until i was successful. It took three different ones to completely clear my problem, but it eventually worked. Thankyou anyway.
