Thank you for your assistance, I can build a computer faster than this one is running. :(
This site saved me from msjuan with another computer, and I am so grateful. This current computer has something else SBD (silent but deadly), which started after downloading and attempting to run Ad-Aware as a free and then purchased version. I have since uninstalled, but it hasn't been effective.

Here is my log-

Hi,
I have 1G of PC133 RAM, and that is as far as I can upgrade. Here are the stats on my computer:

Power Supply, 250Watt, NONPFC, 3.3V, 20+4
Service Kit, Processor, 1.6GHZ, Willamette Pentium 4, DIM 4300
100MHz FSB
On die Level 2
Cache (256 KB)
4X bus transfer data rate
Data bandwidth of up to 3.2 Gbytes/sec
Intel NetBurst micro-architecture

I'm wondering if I should reformat the Hard Drive? I haven't done that in a couple of years, so maybe that would help??

Hi

Reformatting surely helps.

How old is that computer?

Before that you can try defragging hard drive.

The computer was purchased in 2001, but the hard drive (Western Digital) crashed in 2004 so I had to get a new one. I think I reformatted it once in 2006 since then.

Yes, I have defragged and ran CheckDisk and cleared internet history, etc.

Are you saying that the Hijack This log doesn't show anything?

Hi

Yes, HijackThis log is clean.

We can do further research though but I don't believe that your problems are due to malware.

Great, thank you, good to know the log is clean. :)

No, we don't need to do any further research, I agree with you and it might just be time to pull the plug on this ol' box for what I now want it to do. 7 years is a pretty good run in the tech world.

Before you go can you recommend or direct me to a site that will recommend
1) backup software/program for backup in case of infection (i.e., Acronis or Genie?)
2) after my norton expires what should I switch to so as to ensure I am well protected?

Thank you so very much for your time and assistance, and afterwards you can close this thread.

Hi

1) I personally use Acronis True image and I'm very pleased with it.

2) Do you mean free or commercial programs?

Thank you, it doesn't matter much to me, I'm not one to avoid programs just because I have to pay for them. It's the quality that is most important.

Hi

"All I know for certain is that Norton Internet Security is a Memory Hog!"

I agree :)

Before we call this done, please do this:

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • Click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location and post back here.

Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.

Great, thank you. What does this do? Meaning, once I reformat and reinstall Windows, should I do this again? Also, should I download the required and the optional file or just the required file?
Here is the log file:
