Strange Antivirus XP 2008 problem

Unread postby Reinbag » July 15th, 2008, 1:51 pm

I'm a veteran at removing all types of malware and spyware from my windows xp pc, but I'm really at a loss with this one. Basically, the sad story goes: a friend of mine was using my computer, probably looked at something with malware attached and when I come home at night my screen has turned blue and my computer is bugged. I restart it the next day to find Antivirus XP all over. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to deal with the problem, so I disabled my network connection and left my computer off for a couple days. Now I've been using manual removal instructions, but having absolutely no luck. The big problem is that a lot of the malicious files that come with the antivirus malware are not on my system at all. I've tried unregistering the .dll files (wininet.dll and shlwapi.dll) in every mode possible, but they won't budge (I continually get the message that an entry point was not found),

Here's my log:

Hi Reinbag

Are both AVG and Norton up-to-date?

Also please do this:

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Due to Lack of Response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
