PC Anti-Spyware/ PC Pro Cleaner malware pops ups

Unread postby CookieRocks » July 5th, 2008, 11:42 am

Please help me get rid of this malware, I think I've got rid of most of the infection, but there are three files which continue to come back. I think they have infectd the registry.

Any help would be very appreciated.

CookieRocks,
You have a LOP infection that comes as a "Free sponsor program" with Messenger Plus.
-----------------------------------------------------
Download FixPolicies.exe, a self-extracting ZIP archive, and save it to your Desktop.
You can get it from here:: http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/BillCastner/FixPolicies.exe
  • Double-click FixPolicies.exe.
  • Click the "Install" button on the bottom toolbar of the box that will open.
  • The program will create a new Folder called FixPolicies.
  • Double-click to Open the new Folder, and then double-click the file within: Fix_Policies.cmd.
  • A black box will briefly appear and then close.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove Programs Using Control Panel
From Start, Settings, Control Panel or Start, Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs.
Highlight each one of these Entries, as follows, one by one, if it exists, and choose Remove. You may only have one or two of them :

CiD Help
CiD Manager
DivoCodec
Messenger Plus
Messenger Plus and Client
Download Plugin for Internet Explorer
Bitdownload
Zone Media
WinZix
Search Plugin
Bitgrabber
BitRol
Netpumper
Torrent101
W3player

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into Keeping the program.
-----------------------------------------------------------
REBOOT Your Machine <== this is important
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis (or reveal.exe).
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:

I've also noticed that the open where you would hide or show hidden files, has changed. Instead of the normal words, it has changed to NOHIDDEN and SHOWALL.

Internet Explorer isnt working properly either, whenever I attempt to go to any link from google search, I get the message 'Microsoft Interner Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvinience'.

Please advise what to do next.

Thanks in advance.

Unread postby askey127 » July 12th, 2008, 6:50 am

CookieRocks,
With this infection, the files morph while you make corrections.
Please do what you can to answer promptly each time and don't reboot unless asked by OTMovit2 or Myself.
-------------------------------------------------------
Disable SUPERAntiSpyware until the computer is clean
Right-click on the shortcut from the system tray, choose View Control Center (preferences/options), on the General and Startup tab, uncheck, Start SUPERAntispyware when Windows starts, click Close to exit.
PLEASE DO REBOOT HERE
-----------------------------------------------------
Run FixPolicies
Double-click to Open the FixPolicies Folder, and then double-click the file within: Fix_Policies.cmd.
A black box will briefly appear and then close.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis.
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lknibojc] regsvr32 /u "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\lknibojc.dll"

O21 - SSODL: appact - {7255D33C-AD1B-0E42-9D47-01E3320B0A82} - C:\Program Files\lfnrfnd\appact.dll

Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.
------------------------------------------------------------
Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
Save it to your desktop
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
    Code: Select all

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\bkjydqvo\
    C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3
    [start explorer]
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Retrieve the List of Installed programs Using HJT
Open HijackThis, click Open The Misc Tools Section. Then scroll down the list if you need to, click Open Uninstall Manager and Save List...
The List of installed programs will automatically be saved as uninstall_list.txt in your HiJackThis folder. In addition, the list opens in Notepad so you can also save as another name in another location if you wish. Please paste the contents into your next reply.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HiJackThis Log
Start HijackThis if it's not already running.
Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.
So we are looking for a new HiJackThis log, and the Installed Programs list.
Don't Reboot here.

CookieRocks,
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis.
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {62E089D4-C0B8-BC54-4FE9-08B373752149} - C:\WINNT\system32\ApiDbWeb.dll
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions present
O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions present
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [updateMgr] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AdobeUpdateManager.exe" AcRdB7_0_7 -reboot 1

Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.
------------------------------------------------------------
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
    Code: Select all
     C:\WINNT\system32\ApiDbWeb.dll

-----------------------------------------------------
Run FixPolicies
Double-click to Open the FixPolicies Folder, and then double-click the file within: Fix_Policies.cmd.
A black box will briefly appear and then close.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HiJackThis Log
Reboot your computer (It's OK this time). Start HijackThis
Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.
Let me know if you still get that redirect problem.

The OTMoveIt thing was just a cleanup.
Your log looks OK.
Do you still get the redirects?

CookieRocks,
If your machine is OK, we would like to get a few files from the backups made by the removal programs.
You had an infection that is very new, and we would like to analyze some of the removed files to help others.
Let me know if you can do that, and if your machine is behaving properly..
Thanks

Hey,

Things look pukka. Not having any problems so far with them, the redirects aren't happening either, internet is working smoothely too.

Thanks for all your help.

Sure I can try give any files that you need, but you may need to give me some time, as I'm actually out of office for a week to ten days. No one should have touched any of the files whilst I'm away, so obviously if all is fine then as soon as I'm back in the office I will send them over. Let me know which ones you need and I'll get onto it as soon as possible.

One thing is the NOHIDDEN and SHOWALL parts that I mentioned before, they still remain the same, is that likely to cause a large problem?

Thanks for your help once again.

Regards

CookieRocks,
We want to send a couple OTMoveIT2 backup folders:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Using My Computer navigate to this folder C:\_OtMoveIt\ and doubleclick it.
There should be one or more folders in there with the name beginning with : \07122008.....\.
Highlight all folders that exist that start with that name, then right click and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
If it asks a question about designating Zip Folders, you can answer NO.
Note the name of the .zip file you just created. You will need to browse and find it again in a moment.

  1. Click here to go to Spykiller.
  2. In the Name box, type in your name.
  3. In the Email box, type in your email address.
  4. In the Subject box, copy and paste in Files for Tony Klein.
  5. In the big text box, copy and paste this in: Link to log: http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=32273
  6. Type in the Visual Verification.
  7. In the first Attach box, browse to the .zip file you just created and highlight it. It's in this folder - C:\_OtMoveIt\
  8. Click on Post.
Copy the topic link from SpyKiller and Post back in your next reply. Thanks for your Help!

When you post back (whenever), I will do one or two more scans to look for leftovers.
See if the Restrictions entries go away right after running FixPolicies
