Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Unless informed of in advance, failure to post replies within 5 days will result in this thread being closed.

Hi Flatman

I'm Gary R, I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Perform all actions in the order given.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with it till you're given the all clear.
  • Remember, absence of symptoms does not mean the infection is all gone.
If you can do these things, everything should go smoothly.
  • If you're using XP, you'll need Administrator privileges to perform the fixes. (XP accounts are Administrator by default)
  • If you're using Vista, it will be necessary to right click all tools we use and select ----> Run as Admistrator
It may be helpful to you to print out or take a copy of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

There's signs of a couple of infections on your computer, we'll need to tackle them one by one.

For the first.

Download FixWareout and save it to your Desktop.
Aternate Download Site

Note: Leave your internet connection running, the fixwareout may prompt you to download BFU from merijn.

  • Double click Fixwareout.exe to run it.
  • Click Next, then Install.
  • Make sure Run fixit is checked and click Finish.
  • The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
  • Click Start > Connect to > Show all connections.
  • Right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection for cable and dsl (or Dial-up Connection if you are using dial-up).
  • Left click on Properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
  • Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically.
  • Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks. (That option might not be avaiable on some systems).
  • Click Start > Run type cmd and hit OK.
  • Type ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter, (Note: there is a space between ipconfig and /flushdns).
  • Type exit hit enter.

Now can you send me the following logs please:
  • New HijackThis log
  • Contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

ONLY if you can't access the internet after running the fix, follow the steps below in Green:

  • Select Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections
  • Right click your default connection, usually Local Area Connection (or Dial-up Connection if you are using dial-up).
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
    • Under This connection uses the following items,
      • Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and press the Properties button
      • Select the radio button that says Use the following DNS server addresses:
      • Enter the following IP address into the Preferred DNS Server box:

      • Enter the following IP address into the Alternate DNS Server box:

      • Click OK twice to exit out of the Properties box.
      • Reboot your computer.

Question (please answer) Do you use a router to connect to the Internet ? If you do what make and model is it ?
