This "Autoplay" thingermajigger randomly pops up every now and then and that's definitely not normal...

Hi xDiGx,
Sorry for the delay.
Don't know whether your problem is malware related or not.
When you post back, please tell me whether your Internet Provider is att.net or sbcglobal.net, or neither.
-----------------------------------------------------
  • Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.

Yeah, so... I use Embarq? Also, my AVG Anti-Virus never detects any viruses or anything. Do I need to reinstall it or get something different?

xDiGx,
------------------------------------------------------------
Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
Save it to your desktop
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
    Code: Select all
    [kill explorer]
C:\Documents and Settings\Ashley\My Documents\My Music\Greeley Estates - Go West Young Man Let The Evil Go E.wma
    [start explorer]

  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process.
If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
After the reboot, or if you lose the Notepad contents, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key.
Navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

xDiGx,
Good work.
We had to get that one first, since it is a spyware downloader, before it dumped more junk on your machine.
Spyware purveyors use free music to spread their infections.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis (or reveal.exe).
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.att.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.att.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.sbcglobal.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.sbcglobal.net

Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove Programs Using Control Panel
From Start, Settings, Control Panel or Start, Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs.
Highlight each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, and choose Remove :
Ad-Aware 2007
(You won't need it with the program you are downloading next).
Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into Keeping the program.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reboot your machine
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
Please download the Installer and save to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to both Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • If necessary, start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware again.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location, and post the contents in your reply.
  • The log can also be found here if you need it : Start, All Programs, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Logs
The logs are named by date stamp
-----------------------------------------------------------
Retrieve the List of Installed programs Using HJT
Open HijackThis, click Open The Misc Tools Section. Then scroll down the list if you need to, click Open Uninstall Manager and Save List...
The List of installed programs will automatically be saved as uninstall_list.txt in your HiJackThis folder. In addition, the list opens in Notepad so you can also save as another name in another location if you wish. Please paste the contents into your next reply.
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.

So, we are looking for the Malwarebytes log, and the Uninstall_list.txt from HiJackThis.

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into Keeping the program.

Note: If you ever needed to restore your registry later, you would go to the backup folder and start ERDNT.exe
------------------------------------------------------------
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. .
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

xDiGx,
-----------------------------------------------------------
Retrieve the List of Installed programs Using HJT
Open HijackThis, click Open The Misc Tools Section. Then scroll down the list if you need to, click Open Uninstall Manager and Save List...
The List of installed programs will automatically be saved as uninstall_list.txt in your HiJackThis folder. In addition, the list opens in Notepad so you can also save as another name in another location if you wish. Please paste the contents into your next reply.
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HiJackThis Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis
Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.

So we are looking for a new HiJackThis Log, and a fresh Uninstall_list.txt

xDiGx,
Messenger Plus! Live is a program which has been known in the past to offer "sponsor software", which turns out to be a LOP infection.
I would not allow it on my own machine under any circumsstances.
It may attempt to install sponsor software at each "update".
I would strongly suggest you go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and Uninstall it.

Let's check whether it has left any trails behind:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Press Start->Run, copy/paste the following command into the box and press OK:
cmd /c dir C:\windows\tasks\*.* /L /A /B /S >> "%userprofile%\desktop\look.txt"

A file called look.txt should appear on your Desktop. Please post the contents of this file.

How is your machine running? Your log looks clean. If things are working OK, I will give a final instruction to improve your security going forward.

c:\windows\tasks\applesoftwareupdate.job
c:\windows\tasks\check updates for windows live toolbar.job
c:\windows\tasks\desktop.ini
c:\windows\tasks\lifechattask.job
c:\windows\tasks\sa.dat

So, I definitely uninstalled that then. It seems to be running fine. Like.. before, when I restarted.. it took like two minutes. But then recently.. it took, no joke, like a half hour to an hour. And I wasnt sure what was up? I dont know if it's stopped doing that yet. It didnt do it every time. It didnt do it the last time I restarted, yesterday. But it did the time before that. That really freaked me out. It'd just stay on each start up screen page for like, ever... and then it'd go to the next one.. and stay on that screen forever.. then finally after a gillian years it'd get to the screen where I could type in my password to log in. Then all I'd be able to see is my wallpaper.. and it'd take another million years for me to see my icons and everything... and then it would be fine.

Looks OK. A final check please,
-----------------------------------------------------
  • Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
