Help! Backdoor.win32.Rbot.jqt

Unread postby Tech Tard » April 15th, 2008, 8:41 pm

My pc has been infected with various bugs, but Kaspersky Internet Security keeps popping a box referring to a trojan program Backdoor.win32.Rbot.jqt in file c:\windows\system32\cryptsvcp.dll. "Kasp" keeps telling me it can't "disinfect" or delete this file.Have run scans with Kasp and with Spyware doctor, they find lots of stuff and have fixed most, but this one is stubborn. Pc will not boot to safe mode, I get blue screen of death (page fault in a nonpaged area). Boots into "normal" windows otherwise. I know I am probably leaving out alot of info, bear with me, not new to computers, but I have never dealt with this type of problem before, so I'm trying to be careful so as not to wreck my pc. Thanks Much.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Carolyn and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that it happens.

Please reply to this thread, do not start another.
Please tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
Please tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
Please try as much as possible not to run anything while executing a fix.

As I am still in training, everything that I post to you must be checked by one of the teachers. Thus, there may be a bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long.

If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly.

I am sorry that we were unable to reply to your post sooner. The forums have been very busy.

If you are still in need of assistance, please do the following:

Download and Run HijackThis
Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
  • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.
Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Also, please make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in your next reply.

Post the fresh HijackThis log and the uninstall list in the body of your next reply.

Hello,

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to a convenient location.
  1. Double click on mbam-setup.exe to install it.
  2. Before clicking the Finish button, make sure that these 2 boxes are checked (ticked):
      Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  3. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now check for updates. If your firewall prompts, please allow it. If you can't update it, select the Update tab. Under Update Mirror, select one of the websites and click on Check for Updates.
  4. Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform full scan, then click on Scan.
  5. Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
  6. When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
  7. Checked (ticked) all items and click on Remove Selected.
  8. After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your reply.

Please post the Malewarebytes' Anti-Malware log along with the contents of main.txt and extra.txt.

Carolyn,
Forgive me for not posting DSS log, life has gotten in the way past couple of days. I was contacted by Kaspersky and they had me download a utility that was able to delete the file that "kasp" flagged as a trojan. Great. now I'm wondering if my PC is secure still. I updated anti virus/firewall and ran a scan and all is good. Can I trust this? Is there anyway to determine if I'm still infected, anything else I should check? I'm freaked out by this whole thing, feeling uneasy. Any suggestions? Thanks again for your time. :)

Hi TT,

I understand how upsetting this has been for you and the uneasy feeling you have described. For the majority of us, our computers contain such important personal content that the idea of it being breached can be alarming.

The best way to tell if there is anything going on with your computer is to use multiple scans. Every scanning product uses a different type of technology, different algorithms if you will, to identify potential problems on your computer. I would never rely on only one or two scans to determine if a computer is clean. Some of the more thorough scans provide output logs that are complicated and require rigorous training to interpret. Deckard's System Scanner is one such scanning tool. That's where we come in.

I also understand that you are uncomfortable with posting logs that show the contents of your computer. I assure you, that the type of information collected by these scans is not of a personal or private nature. Much like the HijackThis scan you ran, Deckard's system scanner collects information about running processes, system settings, and so on. It's like HijackThis on steroids. The logs will show what programs you have installed on your computer, but they will not show passwords or other data used by the programs. Also, before posting any logs or reports, you can look the text file(s) over and edit out your User Name should it appear anywhere in the file(s).

If you decide to post the scans that I request, I will make recommendations based on those scans. You will then choose whether or not to follow those recommendations.

If you are too uncomfortable to post logs, then you may need to reformat to make yourself feel better. If you want to give the logs a try, and decide at some point it's not for you, you can still reformat. You won't hurt my feelings ;)

Let me know what you decide to do or if you have any questions. :)

P.S. - I promise to warn you if a tool will do more than just scan your computer. No more surprises!

Carolyn,
Your the best! :cat: Will post the DSS log asap, I wasn't implying you were springing any "surprises" on me. I'm not new to computing, just have never had to deal with a problem like this before. Thank so much for your help and understanding!
