Ok, I'd just like to try something for my benefit really, I'd like to try again as have made a small alteration, if it still doesn't work we will download the latest copy and go from there.
please continue with cf followed by the malwarebytes program I gave you in a previous post. Make sure combofix is the only thing running. Do not mouse click cf's window whilst it's running could cause it to stall.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Code: Select all
File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ozsncpcr.exe

DirLook::
C:\Documents and Settings\Steven\Application Data\TmpRecentIcons
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\sdankxyp

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt"

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Re: Remove System Integrity Scan Popup

Unread postby dan12 » April 9th, 2008, 3:34 pm

Ok,were going to update the program as this changes frequently. do this step before downloading the new one.

UNINSTALL COMBOFIX

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
  • Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
  • Image
You can also delete any logs we have produced, and empty your Recycle bin.

Close all windows and try typing this command directly in and see if ComboFix runs.

Remember to use the " marks and there is a space between exe" and /killall

Start > Run > type "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

If ComboFix runs, please post the log.

If this went ok,then please continue

-----------------------------

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more than 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

please include combofix log
and a HJT log in your next post.

I followed your instructions, but when I ran "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall I recieved a windows error message indicating that ComboFix could not be found. Was this supposed to happen?

Also, after ComboFix was finished, my system was rather slow so I looked under system processes and somthing called ccApp.exe was taking up 99% of CPU usage. So I ended the process. What is ccApp.exe?

Will be looking over your returned logs soon.
ccapp.exe is a process belonging to Norton AntiVirus. It is responsible for the auto-protect and email checking facilities, both of which will not function correctly if this service is stopped :)
I would reinstate that :)

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Code: Select all
File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ozsncpcr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\VACFix.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEDFix.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Process.exe

Folder::
C:\fixwareout
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\SmitfraudFix
C:\Documents and Settings\Steven\Desktop\Misc\SmitfraudFix
C:\Documents and Settings\Steven\Desktop\Misc\Spyware\SmitfraudFix

DirLook::
C:\Documents and Settings\Steven\Application Data\TmpRecentIcons
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\sdankxyp

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt"

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

I was not able to delete the email files as I the folder local settings under C:\Documents and Settings\Steven\Local Settings\ does not appear to exist on my computer. I also tried a search for *.eml in the specified folder, but nothing was found.

OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer - Version 1.0.4.1 log created on 04132008_081726

My computer seems to be working nicely, haven't had any spyware popups for the last couple days.

Also, what would you recommend as the best antivirus program(s) and antispyware / malware program(s) that I should have on my system?

Ok, log looks good now, I will give you some recommended programs in my closing speech. As for a\v's well you have to make a choice.
I myself use kaspersky but this is a paid version as I like how fast the definitions for new infections are available.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit

Double click on OTMoveIt2.

Click on CleanUp!.

You will receive a prompt that it has finished downloaded a list. Click OK.

After this, it will prompt you to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

post me a new HJT log and let me know if clean up went ok for otmoveit.

Re: Remove System Integrity Scan Popup

Hi, Charlie22, well done!
Congratulations you are clean! :)
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Create a new System Restore Point
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  • Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
  • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
  • Select the More options tab
  • Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5.2
Download it from here. Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here
Find here changes from older version 1.4 here

Install Spyware Guard
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Guard here

Install SpyWare Blaster
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Install FireTrust SiteHound
You can find information and download it from here

Install MVPS Hosts File from here
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
Find Tutorial here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.

Dan,

Thanks so much! There's no way I would've figured this out on my own!
