File-Secure Rogue Security - System Error Box in IE

Unread postby cary » March 28th, 2008, 11:27 pm

I keep getting this annoying pop-up that is trying to make me buy a program to get it to stop. I've tried all kinds of removal tools but it just keeps coming back. Here's the error message I get:

System Error!
Your computer was infected by unknown trojan. It's dangerous to your system (critical
files can be lost)!
Click OK to download antispyware program to clean your system! (Recommended)

Can anyone help me get rid of this?

Thanks,
Cary

Hi
Install HijackThis

  • Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
  • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.
Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

Hi
Download and Run SmitfraudFix
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I had to disable Trend Micro to download Smitfraudfix.. but I couldn't fid a Smitfraudfix.exe file. There are several .exe files and Process.exe was one so I ran it but the box flashed before I could copy.

Did I do something wrong?

The Smitfraudfix.exe file should be there. Did you save it to your Desktop? You should see the file as soon as you open the folder.

I tried SmitFraudFix again but there's no .exe file for SmitFraudFix; there is a SmitFraudFix.cmd but not a .exe

I tried to copy the list of files from the extract but it won't copy to this.

Hi

Delete the Smitfraudfix folder from your Desktop and download from this link instead.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Then try again.
You may have to right-click and select Run As Administrator

Re: File-Secure Rogue Security - System Error Box in IE

Unread postby Scotty » April 2nd, 2008, 6:40 am

Hello

Please right-click HijackThis and select Run As Administrator, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):[/b]

    O2 - BHO: Media Player Codec - {3084A75F-5350-4D8B-BC5F-6B378035C133} - C:\Windows\dsaip32b.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked exit HijackThis and reboot.

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:
  1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
  2. Double-click on the My Computer icon (or click Start, then select My Computer)
  3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  4. After the new window appears select the View tab.
  5. Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
  6. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
  7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
  8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
  9. Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Navigate to and delete the following file:

File:
C:\Windows\dsaip32b.dll

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

      + Extended(If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:

      + Scan Archives
      + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post with a new HijackThis log.

With the exception of Internet Explorer, which is needed for the Kaspersky Scan, keep ALL programs closed until the scan is complete. This includes your anti-virus. Once you have installed the Scanner, and the updated definitions, you can disconnect from the Internet.Re-enable the anti-virus before reconnecting to the Internet.
