Hi,

Are you please able to help elimate this stubborn pop-up, which appears with CiD as a name.
It has been undetectable with my spyware/adware programs.

Hi, and welcome to malwareremoval forums

I'm dan12, I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Perform all actions in the order given.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with it till you're given the all clear.
  • REMEMBER, ABSENCE OF SYMPTOMS DOES NOT MEAN THE INFECTION IS ALL GONE.
If you can do these things, everything should go smoothly.
  • Please note you'll need to have Administrator priviledges to perform the fixes. (XP accounts are Administrator by default)
  • Please let me know if you are using a computer with multiple accounts, as this can affect the instructions given.
It may be helpful to you to print out or take a copy of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

I'm presently looking over your log and hope not to be too long.
Will be back with you as soon as I can.
Thanks dan

Then reboot. Important!

* Download Deljob.exe and save it to your desktop.

Re: CiD Malware Pop Up

Unread postby dan12 » March 13th, 2008, 8:00 am

P2P Warning!

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

BitTorrent

Please note that as long as you are using any form of Peer-to-Peer networking and downloading files from non-documented sources, you can expect infestations of malware to occur
Once upon a time, P2P file sharing was fairly safe. That is no longer true. You may continue to use P2P sharing at your own risk; however, please keep in mind that this practice may be the source of your current malware infestation

I'd like you to read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.

References for the risk of these programs can be found in these links: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/protection.mspx
http://www.techweb.com/wire/160500554
http://www.internetworldstats.com/articles/art053.htm

I would recommend that you uninstall BitTorrent, however that choice is up to you.
If you wish to keep it, please do not use it until your computer is cleaned.

Unread postby cedarboy88 » March 14th, 2008, 7:12 pm

Hi Dan12,

I have followed thru on the listed steps.

The CiD (LoP virus) continues to pop up.

I have attached all 3 logfiles.

Also should I be refrain from re-downloading DivX for windows from the site; http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/
(I did remove the original DivX program from my program files as I suspected it as being infected from our infected list names).

Thanks.

Regards

Download and Run NoLop
Please Download NoLop to your desktop from one of the links below...
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
  • First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
  • Double click NoLop.exe to run it.
  • Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
(your computer will now be scanned for infected files)
  • When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
  • Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
  • A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish.
  • Please post the contents of C:\NoLop.log later.
Note: If you receive an error, "mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered," please download mscomctl.ocx to C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder then rerun the program.

post the no lop log and a fresh HJT log.
Thanks dan

Delete ContextTool
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present). It could be that they have a space or something between it , but it has to look like it:
  • ContextTool\

**Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)

O2 - BHO: Media Holding Enterprises, LLC - {0D39A900-0F3A-4C29-A254-3E65244FDC34} - C:\Program Files\ContextTool\ContextTool-2.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [bash log] C:\DOCUME~1\PETERS~1\APPLIC~1\ENCFOU~1\Blue start.exe

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit

Re-boot into safe mode

  • Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear use arrow up to highlight
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.
  • For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:HERE

Right click start, In the drop down menu click "Explore" Then navigate to each file\ folder in the left hand pane, which will reveal its content in the right hand pane, highlight file or folder right click and Delete, if present:

C:\Program Files\ContextTool << This folder
C:\DOCUME~1\PETERS~1\APPLIC~1\ENCFOU~1 << This folder note* first six characters will look like this but could be eight characters long.

re-boot into normal mode
------------------------

Still not had the kaspersky scan report back yet!I need to see it all not just the header :)

Please include in your next post:
  • Kaspersky scan log
  • New highjackthis log

Thanks dan

Hi Dan12,

I have followed the steps.

Results are;
1) Two Hijackthis entries (present) were successfully removed
2) In safe mode, no such suspect files were found as listed.
3) I did re-run Kaspersky scanner. This time it did complete itself and allowed to save a text logfile. File attached.
4) CiD pop up in existance.

Regards

It's being a little stuburn :)

Disable Ewido:

* From the system tray, Right-click the system tray icon and Uncheck real time protection.
* or From within Ewido -
Under 'Your security status', if the real time protection is active, deactivate it by clicking 'real time protection' until the status says 'inactive'.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [bash log] C:\DOCUME~1\PETERS~1\APPLIC~1\ENCFOU~1\Blue start.exe

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit

We need to reveal system folders
  • Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
  • Double-click on the My Computer icon.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
  • After the new window appears select the View tab.
  • Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders
  • Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files
  • Press the Apply and then the ok button and shut down my computer
  • Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.
  • For you and the tools to be able to see appropriate files we need to Show Hidden Files

C:\DOCUME~1\PETERS~1\APPLIC~1\ENCFOU~1 << This folder note* first six characters will look like this but could be eight characters long.

re-boot into normal mode

Please include in your next post:
  • New highjackthis log

Thanks dan

In safe mode, I did delete the following files.
*AcidliesNewData.exe
*Blue Start.exe
*Iskhvsra.exe
*Screachpop.exe

I only recall asking to delete this file "Blue Start.exe "

Did you manage to delete the folder too C:\DOCUME~1\PETERS~1\APPLIC~1\ENCFOU~1 << This folder

Hi Dan12,

Yes I did delete under this file path. Note the 4 listed .exe files.

I apologise if I have not followed your instructions clearly.

After some time, it does now appear that the pop-ups have ceased.

Regards
Cedarboy88.
