I think it's a Trojan :|

Unread postby cartoon.music » December 8th, 2007, 6:43 pm

I think I have a Trojan virus. Everytime I open up a new browser, I get a warning sign telling me my computer has been hacked with a Trojan.akk. I would greatly appreciate any help since this computer is not solely mine and is shared with a couple other people, therefore I feel guilty for being the one that downloaded an unsafe file accidentally :!:

Here's an updated HJT log;

I have Spybot-S&D installed onto my computer, and I downloaded a free trial of Trojan Hunter and had a scan done. It said that it found 1 Trojan and 4 infected objects. I had them removed by using Trojan Hunter. The thing is, the location and file name it gave me was a file I downloaded months ago, yet I only started getting 'Trojan error' messages a couple days ago after browsing on a blog. I'm wondering if Trojan Hunter couldn't find the Trojan? [EDIT] Pop-up warnings have not ceased.

Here is the Trojan Hunter scan report:

Hi cartoon.music,

Thank you for your confirmation on which forum to stick to.

Please following the following instructions in order:

Step 1

Please uninstall Bearshare as it is infected. To uninstall it, do the following:

  1. Click on Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Locate Bearshare and click on the Change/Remove button to uninstall it.
  3. Close Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel. Restart your computer after uninstalling Bearshare.

A list of clean and infected P2P Programs can be found here: http://p2p.malwareremoval.com/index.html

If you do install any P2P Programs after uninstalling Bearshare, please refrain from using them during the cleaning process.

Step 2

If you already have Smitfraudfix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please download SmitFraudFix.exe by S!Ri and save it to the desktop.

If you can't download it, please download it from these alternative sites:

From Geekstogo
From Security Cadets
From Zebulon

  1. Double click on SmitfraudFix.exe.
  2. Press 1 then hit the Enter key.
  3. It will create a report named rapport.txt, usually at C drive.
  4. Please post back this log in your next reply.

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. Read more here

Step 3

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  3. Look under System tools.

Hi ndmmxiaomayi,

My dad called in a friend to 'fix the problem', but I'm not sure how far they got. I used to get pop-ups saying "Error: Your browser has been hijacked by Trojan.akk, meaning it can crash soon! Click here to get the latest spyware software to protect your computer" each time I browsed a new page, but the pop-ups have ceased. I had to go to my C drive and then manually uninstall Bearshare since it wasn't showing up on the Add/Remove Programs list. I've done all the steps and here are the reports;

Smitfraud;

For the FileFind report, it said "0 Files found in 14047 Directories", and when I pressed the Extract button, a blank Notepad opened up.

Hi cartoon.music,

As far as I could see, the Smitfraudfix report looks clean and HijackThis log no longer shows signs of Smitfraud (those fake trojan warnings are indications of Smitfraud infections) infection.

I don't know what your Dad's friend has done, so I'm going to do some diagnostic scan first.

  1. Please download Deckard's System Scanner from Tech Support Forum and save it to your desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  2. Save all your work and close all opened programs.
  3. Double click on dss.exe to run it. Follow the prompts.
  4. When the scan is complete, two log files will be produced. The first one, main.txt, will be maximized, the second one, extra.txt, will be minimized.
  5. Please post the contents of the 2 log files in your next reply. 1 log per reply please.

Hi cartoon.music,

If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please download Combofix from Bleeping Computer. Save it to your desktop.

If you can't download it, please try these 2 alternative sites:

Forospyware
Geeks to Go

Double click to run it. Follow the prompts. Once done, it will reboot and a log will be produced. Please post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Do not mouse click on Combofix while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Combofix log (C:\Combofix.txt)
  2. A new HijackThis log

Hi cartoon.music,

  1. Please download querySvc.zip and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right click on querySvc.zip and select Extract All....
  3. Click Next on seeing the Welcome to the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction Wizard.
  4. Click on the Browse button. Click on Desktop. Then click OK.
  5. Click Next. It will start extracting.
  6. Once done, check (tick) the Show extracted files box and click Finish.
  7. Double click on querySvc.cmd to run it. A Command Prompt window will open, followed by Notepad shortly afterwards. Please post the contents of this Notepad file in your next reply.
