TROJ_AAFN.A infected file A3P.EXE how to rid?

Unread postby mrstkdsd » December 1st, 2007, 6:54 pm

My Trend Micro keeps alerting me to this infected file. I have scanned using the TM internet security, did the online housecall and run HiJackThis, but haven't been able to get rid of it. HELP?

Unread postby askey127 » December 6th, 2007, 8:05 am

Hi mrstkdsd,
You may want to print this out, or save it as a Notepad document on your Desktop, since you won't have Internet access in Safe Mode.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Set Your Computer to Show All Files
  1. Click Start.
  2. Click My Computer.
  3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  4. Select the View Tab.
  5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended).
  7. Click Yes to confirm.
  8. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  9. Click OK.
In addition, go to Start, Search. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis.
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [SystemManager] C:\WINDOWS\system32\a3p.exe

Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Start Your Computer in Safe Mode.
Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly as the machine boots, until a menu shows up. Choose Safe Mode from the list. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Additional Info is here: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm
-----------------------------------------------------------
File Deletion
In Windows Explorer (My Computer), navigate to the file shown below, select View, Details, highlight the listed file only, and press Delete. Be careful not to delete any file without double-checking the exact spelling of the filename.

C:\Windows\System32\a3p.exe]

If you have any problem deleting a file, right click the file and choose Properties to see if it's read-only. Uncheck the read-only box, click Apply and OK. Then retry Delete.
If a message pops up saying "File in use", or something like that, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look under the Processes tab. If the exact filename is in there, highlight it and click End Process, then retry Delete.
Please Note if you cannot delete, or if it's not found.
[color=red]-----------------------------------------------------------

REBOOT in Normal Mode
-----------------------------------------------------------
Using Internet Explorer, Please [b]Do an Online Scan with Kaspersky WebScanner
.
Go here to run an online scanner from Kaspersky.
  • Click on "Kaspersky Online Scanner"
  • A new smaller window will pop up. Press on "Accept". After reading the contents.
  • Now Kaspersky will update the anti-virus database. Let it run.
  • Click on "Next">"Scan Settings", and make sure the database is set to "extended". And check both the scan options. Then click OK.
  • Then click on "My Computer", and the scan will start.
  • Once finished, save the log to your Desktop as filename KAV.txt
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HiJackThis Log
Start HijackThis
Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply, along with the contents of kav.txt

Thank you for you response. I did everything EXCEPT run the Kapersky scan because it won't let me do it. It says I have to have admin rights? and I don't know what to change for that.

Here is my new HiJack log file:

mrstkdsd,

Download to your Desktop FixPolicies.exe, a self-extracting ZIP archive from here: http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/Bil ... licies.exe
  • Double-click FixPolicies.exe.
  • Click the "Install" button on the bottom toolbar of the box that will open.
  • The program will create a new Folder called FixPolicies.
  • Double-click to Open the new Folder, and then double-click the file within: Fix_Policies.cmd.
  • A black box will briefly appear and then close. This will enable your Control Panel and stop the Administrative warnings, at least until the malware infection resets the registry policy keys again. You can run this as many times as you like.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download Blacklight from here:
http://www.f-secure.com/security_center/
Under "Downloads", click on Blacklight and Save it to your Desktop
or
Link to it from the ftp site: ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/fsbl.exe
and save it to your desktop from there.

Go to Start-->Run, copy in the following text, and press Enter:
"%userprofile%\desktop\fsbl.exe" /expert

Accept the license agreement.
Click > scan, wait for it to fimish, then click Close

There will be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
Copy and paste the contents of this log into your next reply.
-----------------------------------------------------
Using Internet Explorer, Please Do an Online Scan with Kaspersky WebScanner.

Please post the contents of kav.txt and Blacklight's fsbl.xxxxx.log
You can open the FixPolicies folder on the desktop and double click Fix_Policies.cmd anytime you get the admin error.
Let me know how it goes.

mrstkdsd,
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis.
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)

O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://download.games.yahoo.com/games/w ... der_v6.cab

Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Please download the Registry Search Tool from here (scroll down-there are also other tools on the page):
http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/
Unzip it to a convenient location such as your Desktop.
Make sure that your Antivirus / OS allows the use of the .vbs scripts. If prompted, make sure to allow the script.
Double click regsearch.vbs
Copy / Paste the following line into the Search Box:

SystemManager

then hit Ok
It may take a while to run.
It will tell you when it's done and offer to have you look at the file.
Say Yes, and when it opens copy/paste the content in your reply.

Here is the result:

REGEDIT4
; RegSrch.vbs © Bill James

; Registry search results for string "SystemManager" 12/5/2007 8:04:15 PM

; NOTE: This file will be deleted when you close WordPad.
; You must manually save this file to a new location if you want to refer to it again later.
; (If you save the file with a .reg extension, you can use it to restore any Registry changes you make to these values.)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\Run]
"SystemManager"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\a3p.exe"

-----------------------------------------------------------
Copy/Paste/Run a Registry Edit
Copy/paste the following quote box into a new notepad document:
Code: Select all
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\Run]
"SystemManager"=-

Make sure there are NO blank lines before REGEDIT4
Make sure there IS one blank line at the end of the file.

Save it as File Type All Files (not as a Text document, or it won't work).
Save it to your Desktop as fixme.reg
Double click fixme.reg on your Desktop, and merge it into the registry when asked.
Reboot Windows.
Please post a fresh HiJackThis log.

Re: TROJ_AAFN.A infected file A3P.EXE how to rid?

Unread postby askey127 » December 7th, 2007, 2:02 pm

mrstkdsd,
That did work just fine.
Now let's see if the file is still there. If so, we'll delete it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
File Deletion
In Windows Explorer (My Computer), navigate to the files shown below, select View, Details, highlight each listed file only, one at a time, and press Delete. Be careful not to delete any file without double-checking the exact spelling of the filename.

C:\Windows\System32\a3p.exe

If you have any problem deleting a file, right click the file and choose Properties to see if it's read-only. Uncheck the read-only box, click Apply and OK. Then retry Delete.
If a message pops up saying "File in use", or something like that, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look under the Processes tab. If the exact filename is in there, highlight it and click End Process, then retry Delete.
Please Note if you cannot delete, or if it's not found.

The file appears to be GONE, searching on my computer said there were no results to display.
Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it.
