Hi,

Can you try installing this update and see if your connections work.

Restart your computer after installing the update.

Please post back a new HijackThis log.

Hi,

Please try this:

1. Open Network Connections (Start > Control Panel and double click Network Connections)

2. Right-click the connection for which you want to enable or disable IEEE 802.1x authentication, and then click Properties.

3. On the Authentication tab, do the following:
• To disable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this connection, clear the Network access control using IEEE 802.1X check box.

Hi ndmmxiaomayi,

I tried doing this. But didn't get this option in the WiFi network, it was there only in the Lan network. Didn't understand much about it.

Now here's the new and good news:

I was just trying to clean my conputer files from here and there, and i found some files associated with Zone Alarm somewhere, even after i had uninstalled it earlier as you said. So i deleted those files and....

Since then my connections are working....!!!! I don't know how but i guess these files might be blocking some things. But i wonder how they were affecting the connections even in Safe Mode or Clean Boot Mode, where no other softwares accept the windows are running. I really hope this is a permanent solution. What do you think???

And I am very very thankful to you that you were trying so much to help me. I really appreciate all the efforts you have put. Thank you so much

Happy New Year!!!! :compress:

Hi,

Glad to hear that your connections are working. :)

A thing to note -

But i wonder how they were affecting the connections even in Safe Mode

There's no internet connections in Safe Mode. Even if it's affecting, you can't tell, since Windows doesn't load network drivers in Safe Mode.

Let's perform some scans.

Step 1

  1. Start AVG Anti-Spyware by going to Start > All Programs > AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 > AVG Anti-Spyware.
  2. In the main screen, you should see Your Computer's Security.
    • Next to Resident Shield, click on Change state. It should now be Inactive.
    • Next to Automatic Updates, click on Change state. It should now be Inactive.
    • Next to Last Update, click on Update now. If your firewall prompts you, tell your firewall to allow it. Should you be unable to update it, download the updates from here. Save it to your desktop. Double click to run the installation and the updates will be installed. Make sure AVG Anti-Spyware is closed during the installation.
    • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware icon near the clock and uncheck (untick) Start with Windows. Confirm by clicking Yes.
  3. Now click on the Scanner button at the top.
  4. Select the Settings tab.
  5. Under How to act?, click on Recommended actions and select Quarantine.
  6. Under How to scan?, check (tick) all the boxes.
  7. Under Possibly unwanted software:, check (tick) all the boxes.
  8. Under Reports:, uncheck (untick) the Only if threats were found box and select Do not automatically generate report.
  9. Under What to scan?, select Scan every file.

Do not run a scan yet. You will run a scan later.

Step 2

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser

  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser

  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Step 3

Please print out or save this set of instructions as you will not have internet access during the fix.

Reboot into Safe Mode by following the instructions below:

  • When you see BIOS screen, start pressing F8.
  • A boot menu will appear shortly.
  • Using the up down arrows, select Safe Mode and press the Enter key.
  • Windows will now load.
  • Log in to your usual account.

Step 4

  1. Start AVG Anti-Spyware by going to Start > All Programs > AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 > AVG Anti-Spyware.
  2. Click on the Scanner button at the top.
  3. Select the Scan tab.
  4. Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan.
  5. When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below.
IMPORTANT: Don't click on the Save Scan Report button before you did hit the Apply all Actions button.
    • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine (1), if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu. (2)
    • At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button. (3)
      Image
  6. When done, click the Save Scan Report button. (4)
    • Click the Save Report as button.
    • Save the report to your Desktop.
  7. Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.

Restart your computer in Normal Mode.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. AVG Antispyware scan report
  2. A new HijackThis log

Hi ndmmxiaomayi,

There's no internet connections in Safe Mode.

I forgot to mention but i was logging on using Safe Mode with Networking at that time.

Here's the report from AVG:

Also, AVG had detected only 2 tracking cookies and the option for Quarantine was disabled. I had to delete them.

---------------------------------------------------------
AVG Anti-Spyware - Scan Report
---------------------------------------------------------

+ Created at: 1:29:21 PM 1/3/2008

+ Scan result:

C:\Documents and Settings\Vinay_Acer\Cookies\vinay_acer@revsci[2].txt -> TrackingCookie.Revsci : Cleaned.
C:\Documents and Settings\Vinay_Acer\Cookies\vinay_acer@tribalfusion[1].txt -> TrackingCookie.Tribalfusion : Cleaned.

::Report end

p.s.: One of my other computers was recently attacked by a virus W32..something and BabeLoh. The viruses were deleted but now i can't select 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' from folder options. It jumps back to 'Do Not Show Hidden Files and Folders'. Any solution??

Hi,

You could post your other computer's problem as a separate topic so that it doesn't get too confusing.

Step 1

Please disable Ad-Aware AdWatch temporarily as it may interfere with the fixes. You can re-enable it when your computer is clean.

  1. Right click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray.
  2. At the bottom of the screen there will be two checkable items called "Active" and "Automatic".
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
  3. Uncheck both of those boxes.

Step 2

Open HijackThis and select Do a system scan only. Put a check (tick) next to these lines:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - (no file)

Click Fix checked. Close HijackThis.

Step 3

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan. Please use Internet Explorer as it uses ActiveX.

  1. Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner button.
  2. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  3. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX from Kaspersky. Click Yes.
  4. When the downloads have finished, click on Next button.
  5. Click on Scan Settings button.
  6. Select extended under Scan using the following antivirus database:
  7. Check (tick) these boxes under Scan options:
    • Scan Archives
    • Scan Mail Bases
  8. Click OK
  9. Click on My Computer under Please select a target to scan:
  10. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected. Click on Save as text button and save it to your desktop.
  11. Copy and paste this log in your next reply.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Kaspersky Antivirus scan report
  2. A new HijackThis log

Hi,

Any other problems?

If no, update these programs:

Update Adobe Reader

  1. Please uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0 before installing the latest version by going to Start > Control Panel and double clicking on Add/Remove Programs. Locate Adobe Reader 7.0 and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it.
  2. Click here to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  3. Select your Windows version and click on Download. If you are using Internet Explorer, you will receive prompts. Allow the installation to be ran and it will be installed automatically for you.

If you are using other browsers, it will prompt you to save a file. Save this file to your desktop and run it to install the latest version of Adobe Reader.
  4. Close your Internet browser and open it again.

Update Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

Your JRE is out of date. The current version is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4.

Click on Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs. Locate J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it.
  1. Click here to visit Java's website.
  2. Scroll down to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4. Click on Download.
  3. Select Accept License Agreement. The page will refresh.
  4. Click on Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to a convenient location.
  5. Run this installation to update your Java.

Please post back a new HijackThis log after updating these programs. Also tell me if you have any other problems. :)

Hi ndmmxiaomayi,

Once again I would like to really thank you for all the help you provided  . If it weren't for you, I would have formated my system.

Also tell me if you have any other problems.

If you may ask..... ;)

I am unable you start the program LimeWire since many days. Tried reinstalling it also. When I click on it.... nothing happens.

I posted it already. Check above.

Also I again tried reinstalling the program LimeWire and now it is working again. One of the fixes you made me do must have repaired something. :)
